warning: material returned overbright or invalid color

hi, since i merged some cars in my scene i get the vray message:
warning: material returned overbright or invalid color
can someone tell me what this means? there are only vray materials on the cars, no raytrace materials. i also get much higher rendertimes now.
help please

Which V-Ray version is this? Are there any texures on the problem materials?

Best regards,
Vlado

hi vlado, it`s v-ray adv 1.50. sp2.
until now i havent found the material which produces the message…
which texture files could make such problems?

i invested a lot of work to change all raytrace materials, but there are still some standard materials left on the objects…i guess this could cause the problem too.

jip standard materials will do that. sometimes even randomly put big white spots all over the place…

Interesting - I’m getting said big white spots on a water material, I have converted all the materials through the scene convert to Vray, but I am guessing it there are a few hold outs somewhere, it’s just a strange hard to produce problem.
Luckily I’m in R&D mode and I can pretty easily rebuild my scene.

if you using vraysun, try making it invisible in modify panel

thanks for the tip, I rebuilt the scene last night, and am still getting the same problem. I haven’t tried making the sun invisible on the new scene , that will be my first test of the day, I did try that on the old sceene to no avail, I am going try the same test with spk 3 and see what results I get, I vaguely remember his problem before I just can’t remember what the solution was - damn old Age :]

Thanks again

hmm maybe its something else. Have you tried clamping output and subpixel mapping in colour mapping?

The splotches have been cleared up with sp.3
I tested the original scene, with sp.3 and the white spoltches are gone - I think it was some strange glitch with with sp.2 the vray sun system and my GI settings, glad to have it cleared up, thanks for you’re help
