I’d like to know why V-Ray for Cinema 4D isn’t updated anymore. I see updates are constantly being released for other platforms, but not for Cinema. Are there so few of us using this software that we’ve become second-class users?
Yes, this is really becoming frustrating. All the other platforms keep receiving updates and there’s still nothing for C4D. On top of that, I feel like some updates that are released for every other platform — like Scatter Paint or Edge Trim — never made it to C4D, and we’re already on version 7.2. The worst part is that we’re paying the same price as users on the other platforms.
I opened a support ticket about the situation, saying that at the very least we deserved some clarification and a roadmap regarding the future of V‑Ray for C4D. The reply I received was that they understood my concerns and would pass the message to the team — and then they closed the ticket.
maybe is time to think … Maybe there are other opinions from old members here as well?
It’s really getting worse and worse… last bigfix was on the 1st of May, and before long time nothing… look at the other aplications… nearly daily bugfixes. Just talking about big fixes… not about new releases… DR2 never worked 100%, same answer here, will talk to the team… it’s a joke
I have been using V-Ray for Cinema 4D for the past few years.
I have been hopeful since Chaos took over the development, but I understand that the small number of users is the biggest reason why updates are slow.
Cinema 4D has a powerful GPU renderer called Redshift. However, I believe V-Ray’s features and Cosmos assets are essential for architectural visualization.
I felt a bit relieved when Chaos took over the development of V-Ray for Cinema 4D, but the recent situation feels very similar to how it was back in the old days.
It would be a great idea if support could clarify the situation. Does V-Ray C4D will be simply discontinued or just updated every 2 - 3 months?? If next updates are delayed its not a big problem for a production environment as we can not update every weeks in order to keep a “safe” workflow. But if future V-Ray C4D development is compromised, it will leads to big questions for me.
Just to reiterate the situation, if you go to the website https://nightlies.chaos.com/, which provides daily development information for the various platforms that V-Ray runs on, you can see that the last update for C4D dates back to May 1st, while for 3DStudio the last update is dated June 7th and version 7.4. It couldn’t be clearer…
I’ve just to talked to a local distributor as my V-ray license is due to renew. They said that according to the their information V-ray for C4D is not updated (anymore??). I don’t know if it’s a misunderstanding and they refer to that C4D version is behind the others at the moment , or the development is really stopped.
I would really like to get some information from Chaos about the future of C4D’s version as we are talking about the future of our business.
A couple of days ago I saw an online conversation on Chaos with Vlado. I asked him directly about the future of Vray in C4D and should I have to worry. His answer was: “regarding the very small user-base of Vray on C4D platform they can’t afford to put more resources in its development”.
However, it is still essential that the software runs correctly and without bugs. It feels like only one person is working halfdays, one day a week, on it.
The lesson to be learnt from this is that if, for example, Blender users start using V-Ray and the user base eventually stagnates, they’ll simply be dropped… It’s not a customer-friendly business model… my opinion
Resources are limited so you have to look at where Chaos is putting their efforts and to me it looks like core functionality and bug fixes are not a top priority.
Generally, I believe Chaos is on a client acquisition campaign(and has been for a while). There tends to be a big effort to get new products out, which then languish, followed by growing users complaints. It happened with the Cinema implementation, it happened with Vantage, it will happen with Blender, etc. So when Chaos puts out a new product that on one asked for, often one that replicates an existing service, but with less functionality(user friendly), existing users complain because they know why the core functionality of their implementation is being ignored. Just look at the bloated library of products and implementations they’ve committed to in the name of a “total solution;” vantage, envision, anima, cosmos, phoenix, veras, corona, vray, enscape, with implementation across sketchup, revit, rhino, archicad, vectorworks, max, maya, houdini, UE, Nuke, Blender and Cinema. Like ca’mon. Ultimately I think the main issue is that they are most likely being pushed by their private equity owners to bloat the product offerings, which spreads development as thinly as possible. Integrate AI, of course, not a questions.
Hearing Vlads comments are concerning. Chaos will of course always keep VRay for 3D Studio Max as its primary, but that leaves the rest in purgatory. And I left Max for that exact reason, because it felt like the walking dead. Now it feels like VRay for Cinema is becoming just that.
What if a company like Insydium were to take over VrayforC4D? Delivery times couldn’t possibly be any worse than they are now anyway… They’re already offering software for Blender, as Maxon is introducing more and more built-in features that used to be available only through Insydium.
