Windows 10 MR Mixed Reality Headset HMD

This is not a Showcase item at all, more of a proof of concept. I used a simple model for this purpose.

I talked to @Thomas_Willberger and @Moritz_Luck at AU this year and they mentioned that they have just bought the MR headset to take with them back to Germany. Well I could not keep my curiosity and wanted to give it a shot. The results are not that great but its a start.

The setup

Lenovo MR Headset

Lenovo Y720 i7, 8GB, Nvidia 1060 Laptop

Windows 10 Fall Creators Edition

Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR

Revit 2017.2.3

Enscape 2.1.0.53

The first time I tried to do this it killed Revit.

Second time it worked for a bit and then Revit went, I think when the headset went to sleep . I can’t remember exactly.

There was a lot of stuttering and shaking moving around the room (maybe frame rate issue)

The video shows, the video was made using my cell phone looking in to the one eye of the Headset. Its not the best, but gives some idea.

I think I need to figure out the button mapping. maybe its mapped as I see Time and elevate

Anyone else go it to work better or any suggestions to remove the stutter.

I have not tried the EXE file. I will try and provide feedback.

Hi, I just came back from the US and bought the samsung HMD Odyssey… i am dying to try it out ( I am using enscape for Rhino…)

If you tell me how you got it to work I cam give it a try here, we have a pretty strong machine here so maybe it will work better…

best

Andreas

We can’t tell for sure, but it will be roughly in the first quarter of next year.

Hi Thomas;

Do you have any more updates on this? Are we going to see Odyssey compatibility soon?

Thx,

Marc

Hi Marc,

Windows MR support will be shipped with the next release! However you’re required to install Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR in order to make it work with Enscape.

Thanks for the info. i’m using the Samsung Odyssey HMD works great on a powerful desktop with GTX1080ti.

on my Laptop with a 1070GTX, I have to have the render quality turned down to draft. but that still looks great.
a few people have mentioned issues getting these headsets set up (windows issues, not enscape issues).

make sure you have the latest.

  • Windows update

  • Graphics Card Drivers

  • USB Drivers

  • Steam updates

  • Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR.

it’s a lot of updates I know, but you will get the best result if you take the time.

Does the newest Enscape works without any disturbances with all Windows MRH?
I’m into buying Lenovo or HP and I want to be sure it works well.

Can anybody comment on that?

Hi @Brown_1 , yes, Windows Mixed Reality Headsets are fully supported (via SteamVR) by Enscape.

Still, we hear due to the higher resolution they have slightly higher hardware requirements than for example Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.

Hello, so right now (13th June) Samsung Odyssey are fully compatible with Enscape? Wich version (release) of enscape? Do we only need to instal SteamVr and keep it running? Thanks

Hi @LiTeL yes, the Samsung Odyssey is fully compatible with our latest release and preview of Enscape. In order to run Enscape with the Samsung Odyseey or any other Windows Mixed Reality Headset, the following software needs to be installed and running: Steam, SteamVR and Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR. If you are new to the Windows Mixed Reality, this guide will provide you with helpful information about Windows VR.
