Worn Steel (Blend and VrayDirt)

Hi,

I’m trying to create a worn steel material using a blend with VrayDirt. I can create the material as expected on a box, but the thickness of the surface applied to impacts the end result negatively. I can see that the radius of the material is what causes the issue, the only solution I’ve found so far is decreasing the radius, however that does not give me the desired results.

I have attached my end results, the shader and a reface example of the material I’m trying to create.

I would appreciate any advice!

On a separate note for Chaos Group the output map with VrayDirt on GPU gives me a very different results than the Vray ADV production render.

Can you use the curvature map for this? I’ve not tried it myself but I think it should work around this.

I’m not exactly sure how the curvature map works in this situation.

This is a known behavior which was discussed here:

Please check Vlado’s advice at post #9.

Regarding the difference with Output map please provide a scene and a screenshots of the results you got into your environment since we are not able to reproduce it here.
Let us also know the exact versions of V-Ray and 3ds Max you are using.
