    Oh... this is interesting!..

    @Randy

    I have a Tyan 2460 also here (with 2 amd 1900+).. and it's true!, is very very stable. So u're saying that i could insert an MP2000 or more Ghz.. and give it higher performances... Did i understand well?

    Better to know that i saved money buying Xeon's .. Opteron are still too expensive and (finally i know for sure) .. not competitive.

    Cheers,
    Marco

      Rendertimes too long ...

      Hey everybody ... I'm a little bit confused cause the rendertimes of the testscene are way too high for my configuration. I've got a Dual Xeon 2,8GHz with 2GB RAM and the VRay version I use is 1.46.14. The scene takes 8:25min to render. There are other guys around that only have rendertimes about 6 minutes using the same configuration.
      Maybe anybody has a hint what might cause that difference.

      Regards ... Andreas.

          @TutanMark
          yes it's possible (with Bios version 1.05 here), but make sure you have a good PSU, at least 420W, not too big vga and HDD's and good chipset cooling. I bought my MP2460's in late 2002, first with XP1600', then few with MP2000, later upgraded to MP2400 and now the Barton XPmobiles. The trustiest mobo I've ever owned!

          @chris
          could be a thermal issue, make sure your P4 isnt throttling, maybe its getting too hot. try to check that with Throttlewatch, a very nice and handy tool. I use it for my P4's and AMD64 on the farm.

            Thanks for the tip, cpu load is 100%, I guess it's normal, but the other graph also, I guess it's bad... It's the intel default fan on it, had a hardtime finding a good lga775 fan when i bought it, i'll try and check back

            thx!

              You can download 30 days evaluation trial of MAX R6 from Discreet for free and run this test if you don't have R6 installed yet.

              Anyway, thanks a lot for your numbers, we are still waiting for more Opteron benchmarks, especially for comparison between WinXP32 and WinXP64.

              This scene is also good check for DR related Vray errors. Non functional Motionblur and missing SSS is clearly visible.

              cheers

              Will vray run on the demo? Because it's tied to max number?

                MAX R6 demo

                Version of MAX that you can download from Discreet is full version. But I don't know if it is still downloadable, because of MAX R7 is out. I used this downloaded demo version some years ago when MAX R6 was fresh. It was full version and I think Discreet sent me some authorization number, but just for 30 days use (I was writing review then).

                    Here is another :
                    Intel P4/HT - 3,4GHz : 8min 42 sec

                    Asus notebook with Sempron 3000+ overclocked at 2000MHz : 13min 40 sec
                    Kind a slow but hey, it's just a notebook

                    And super single AMD64 @2470MHz - 10 min 7sec

                        Nothing dramatic in my opinion. the .15 seems slightly less blurry hence the longer render time.
