Travis what does your setup look like? Do you switch caustics on? can you post your options setup. I'm fairly new and I'm boggled as to why your renders look so great and mine don't. Even when my diamonds look good they don't look as good or real as yours. Thanks!

updated with a couple new images 8-14-07

The images don't fit this forum theme very well, you might have to right click - view image on them.

Just a couple new ones, I haven't posted anything in awhile.

I did this one of my buddy Peter Gordon's award winning piece. Poor guys still a Flamingo user. :'(

Have you shown him that...because I don't think there's anything that would switch him faster then seeing his model look more real then it ever would with flamingo. Great render Travis. Top Notch as always

                Re: V-Ray Jewelry

thanks Damien. Pete is dyin to get vray but i think he's holding out for the Matrix/Vray deal. The render still wasnt where i wanted it to be, but at some point ya have to say "good enough".

I hope that we can get object reflection exclusions. Those stones that are bezel set (the big ones on the ends in the cylinders) are brutal to render. The darkness down in the bezel really degenerates the reflections and light. It would be nice if the stones only saw their environment and no other objects in the scene. It would keep them bright and crisp.

oh btw, Pete loved the render, he's making it into a poster for his store.

Thanks Micha, the pearl pendant is using your original HDR map from your original sample scene. So in away it's your render too

Yes, I have seen the little ruin in the forest in the reflections. ;D

Hey travis what kind of materials are you using for these ground planes? I really like the blurry reflective one in the first image on this page.

its just a near black diffuse layer RGB(16,16,16) with a standard default fresnel map on the reflection layer. Highlight and reflection gloss are around .8 for each.

Hey travis thanks again for the material. i have another question can you think of any reason why the material reflects the diamonds all black? On the first page of this topic you have a great redering of two rings and the floor plane is reflecting the stones the way that i would like.
