  • Re: Post your Simple Render here.

I'm pleased with the general result, but I have one big mistake in the floor material...I forgot to put 'Fresnel' in the reflections, so the material looks more like a 'wavy' mirror with glossy reflections. That affect my walls to. No HDRI this time! ;D
    Regards,
    Stefan

ok nektares, did you render that in SR or vray4su. because here im using vray4 su and i did manage to render it without facetting. and you know what, i think your setting is the most simple setting i have seen here. and indeed a setting in which the newbies must start with. im actually surprise with the result but yet its so simple... you see in your setting you resist in using the camera, that is why when you set up your hdri, wilh just multiplier 1, the effect is there immediatelly.
it really support my theory "how to learn vray in quick way for interior set up". as damien alwyas saying using camera is more acurate, but you end up as newbie tweaking a lot of stuff. Now your setting nektares is really good, except i thik the Hsph subd and samples are way way high. i used 100, 50 and i could see it ok already and it render much faster. i actually tried it with this render and you will see it's really sharp and smooth.

this one i use hsph subd and samples as default (50,20) but made the noise from .01 to .005 and adaptive amount to from 1 to 0.85 the sharpness is still there, but the shadow part seems a bit blotchy.

then i tried raising the hsph subd and samples to 100,50 and i think its excellent but i did not continue the rendering anymore.

one thing i really notice is that noise@.01 which speeds up the rendering. of course the calculation of irradiance takes a bit longer but the result imho is good.

i dont knwo but these are my personal observations and they should not be viewed as rule. the best is see it for yourselves also. as for me, i recoomend nektares setting if you have alot of this close reflected objects and using hdri as lightsource.

            stefan,

nice simple render there. jsut take note on those blurry reflection. two things i want to share in obtainging much better blurry reflection. 1. increased the subdivion of your material reflection layer usually the default is 8.. i usualy increased them to 32. and use adaptive QMC (this is design 4 dof, lrry reflection etc.)

here is my second test using nektares setting. but tweaking the hsph to 100 and samples to 50. adaptive amount at .85 and the rest are the same including a rectangular light on top with the same multiplier as the set up of nektares.

i dont like the previous on, because i cant see the shadow, therefore i removed the rect light above. im surprise with this one. just only using the hdri as light source.

                          Facetted balls!
I think I got to the bottom of this one!
After trying everything, including downloading a new graphic driver which screwed up my network connection, it looks like it is SR1 conversion issue (yet another reason not to upgrade, I hear!)
When you open up an 'old' file in SR1 it make a backup, and then opens the file, and I think thats where the problem lies. I say that because I tried deleting one of the spheres and replacing it with a new one - and that one rendered OK.
                          (I'll post a bug ticket).

oh thank you david for clarifying that. out op topic maybe, how do you managed your materials then, because i do beleive, that when you import 3ds or skp components, then all the materials will have automatic link. my fear is mangement also of materials . can you give us your thoughts,

I'm still on a learning curve with this, so this may not be the definative answer, however, as you say, when you import any components, they come in with their own materials e.g. chrome, so you end up with a material list with for instance - chrome, chrome1, chrome2 etc.
So you just have to go to those materials in vray and import the appropriate vismat - not perfect I know but at least the software is doing some of the work for you!

Personally, I wish it wouldn't create duplicates, but I suppose you might have different types of 'chrome' in different components, so it may be important not to lose those differences.
