Here's all I was able to do

There's something funky with the back window glass that I cleaned up. If I had more time I'd work on getting the view outside the window more balanced. Needing to manually tweak the brightness of the vraylight material background image to be more blown out. Also maybe lower the diffuse color of those outdoor chairs. I rendered in Linear like you had setup by default, but ended up tone mapping it with reinhard in Nuke to help even out the lighting. I'd also look at getting the lights above the island setup with vray lights to help add more central brightness to give more focus to the center of the kitchen.

I get to touch the render time issues. Even with the settings cranked up I was getting noise in the reflections and GI. I'd need to go back and break things down to review what was going on..

    Hope some of this helps

Render times can't be compared - I had it running through DR with 8 dual xeon machines...

Sorry I haven't replied yet, I hadn't realized it was done in max2015 so I had to download it and didn't have much time to play with it as life got in the way on the weekend. Bu like you I had surprisingly high render times and will see if I can play with it tonight hopefully unless someone else is able to get better times. I also just read you are using V-Ray 2.x? if I make changes in 3.x would that still apply to you?
          Cheers,

I am close to buying 3, just cheap, I guess. I have heard some say 3 is slower, so I am not sold on the 30% speed increase, yet.

what are you loving about it? Is there much of a learning curve?

there was very little learning curve to what I was working with before as far as features went, I did notice a speed increase on "most" of my scenes but again I do mostly industrial machinery and its usually on an outdoor scene or a studio type setup.
                    Cheers,

The client was so happy, until I told him that I can't give him a dozen views for what I quoted. He wrote, "Really!!?? Only one view? I had no idea. I thought I was paying for the process and that you can create as many views as possible once the 3D wireframe was in place. This is not a pleasant email to say the least." I told him that the price I quoted was for one view, per the estimate, and he exploded! I even quoted him a discounted price because I felt for him.

You won't regret V-Ray 3. It has many advantages, and the speed is great.

Sucks about the confusion with your client. Scope of work documents can help with this, but you are right in sticking to your guns and charging for additional views. Things are tweaked per view for maximum quality; so it only makes sense.

maybe if you sent him a 3d pdf that he could rotate around in, that might passify him.

however, I only modeled what you see.

Sadly this is one of those things which is better to explain beforehand to the clients or even have it written inside the contract.
I hope you two end on good terms.
                              Cheers,

I don't know why you continue to find yourself in these situations and still dont just get a bloody contract in place. DO IT.
