  • DaForce: what case would you suggest? I don't really care for the fancy looking ones, I don't care what it looks like Yes, I'll be putting in some fans. I was just going to buy them locally if the case didn't ship with them. I wasn't aware of the importance of a high-flow case. I guess I should maybe have done a bit of research on cases before I purchased. Oh well, it's not expensive and I can return it if I need to.

jacksc02: Not just yet, but I probably will sometime in the near future. Are there any significant advantages just yet? Will it utilize the 64bit processor better even when most software is not 64 bit yet?

    • Im using with my new athlon 4400x2 and it is really good.
      Havent had any major problems.
I have noticed that winxp 64 can handle a lot more information in scenes when rendering. It would be great if there was a 64bit version of max to go with it!

I would probabaly recommend the Thermaltake Tsunami one, but check out a few reviews before making up your mind

            • thanks for the links! I think I'll go for the CoolerMaster, I don't want the glowing parts on the Thermaltake.

I'll give my case a shot for a few days and see how the temperatures go. If I have trouble getting things in, I'll send it back that day. If everything goes in ok, then I'll wait and see what the temperatures do

that would be kinda silly if they didn't offer it without the PSU.

                          • it took me a long time to switch from win2k to winxp, but now that winxp has gone through a couple of service packs, I just can't imagine doing without it. It has some annoyances not found in win2k, but the usb support is obviously superb compared to win2k.

Its probabaly more of an ingrown hatred I have had for many years.
I like win2k because its simple, stable and does absolutely everything i need.
Win XP on the other hand I have found it to be not as stable as 2k, from doing tech support for many years you see alot of PC's come and go and from my circle of nerd friends who all use XP.
And that 2k has a smaller memory footprint on install, and i dont need to spend time turning of all the XP eye candy...damn i hate that crap.
So i basically have no reason to move to XP other than to try something different.

USB support superb in XP, can to elaborate on this. I have put many USB devices thru win2k without a single problem. Sony cameras, usb memory sticks, bluetooth dongles... to name a few.

I just have this mindset that if i install XP i know im just going to hate it. But then again i should probabaly just grabber a spare HDD and install it and see how it goes.... who knows stranger things have happned right.
I mean look at Apple and Intel ... who would have thunk it.
