Its probabaly more of an ingrown hatred I have had for many years.
I like win2k because its simple, stable and does absolutely everything i need.
Win XP on the other hand I have found it to be not as stable as 2k, from doing tech support for many years you see alot of PC's come and go and from my circle of nerd friends who all use XP.
And that 2k has a smaller memory footprint on install, and i dont need to spend time turning of all the XP eye candy...damn i hate that crap.
So i basically have no reason to move to XP other than to try something different.
percydaman:
USB support superb in XP, can to elaborate on this. I have put many USB devices thru win2k without a single problem. Sony cameras, usb memory sticks, bluetooth dongles... to name a few.
I just have this mindset that if i install XP i know im just going to hate it. But then again i should probabaly just grabber a spare HDD and install it and see how it goes.... who knows stranger things have happned right.
I mean look at Apple and Intel ... who would have thunk it.
okay I guess I should clarify. USB support when win2k FIRST came out was fairly spotty. I guess I forogt that we are into several service packs now.
I use to do tech support for Hewlett Packard, and when win2k came out I spend alot of time on calls about usb, lemme tell you.

jow:
What sort of problems did you have with installing windows and sata drivers?
Cause i will be needing to do similar soon.
percydaman:
ahh i see your point. But thats also kinda like saying that XP was really shit....before the patches.
I guess the first version of everything is usually pretty crappy. Well from Microsoft its true anyway .. hehehe
Well when i get my new 400gb drive I might install XP and see how she fares.
I seem to spend most of my time on the phone instructing people how to re-enable their LAN connection so their broadband connection will work because XP decideds that their LAN connection needs to be disabled for some reason.. LOL its crazy
p.s. No ram or CPU yet for me...even tho today they should be atleast in store...they apprently had the RAM since monday even after i asked for it to be shipped ASAP. hahaha gonna kill 'em
silly stuff mate,
1, the FDD i was sent is broke!
2, trying to install wrong driver
3, missing a NT file for DOS on my old comp. so couldnt get driver of the motherboard CD.
4, driver that i tried from gigabyte website didnt work
after all that,i got the NT file"AUTOEXEC.NT",ran the CD,made a driver floppy and it was plane sailing from there!!!!
ahhh ok cool... hahaha its always the little things hey.
Well last night i decided to OC my current CPU athlon64 3000, and i got it easily up to 2.475ghz from its stock of 1.8ghz. And its basically running at the same temp as before... hehehe.
Pretty good IMO
isnt that another reason to be on winxp rather than 2k...being that 2k cant handle more than 2 processors. which rulls out all dual HT configurations and all dual dual core configs too.

hm.... this I did not know. So are you saying that the dual core processors won't function properly under 2k? or are you saying that two dual core processors won't?
Da_elf:
I wouldnt say that was a reason to move to XP (not for me anyway), seeing as i dont have a dual xeon setup with HT or a dual opteron 275 setup, there is no need for me to use XP.
But yeah 2k cant manage more than 2 cpu threads, either physical or vitrual (hyperthreading)
And if ever the day came where i needed an OS to handle more then 2 cpu threads when i would have to move to XP or longhorn
Buck:
he said dual dual core. So 2x Opteron 275's ...which are dual core = 4 cpu threads. And win2k only handles 2 cpu threads.
So an X2 is fine because its a single dual core cpu. so only 2 cpu threads.
