        • again.. haha its becoming a weekly thing now.

Yeah it does sure sound like a power problem. Im running a 680w, with my 8800GTX but I also have 9 HDD's which i think means the PSU is kinda on the limit.
Might up grade to a 1k one sometime soon. But still runs fine as long as I have that extra mobo plug in.

          EricCamper:
You will be fine with the 750w, and no you cannot plug in more than 2 screens.. it only has 2 DVI ports .. well techincall you could use the video out to hook up a tv as well.. but thats not quite what you were after.
You could put another card in and run 4 screens

          • Cant you use a DVI splitter and output to 2 seperate monitors from one?

Dont know how it will deal with 3, but ive ran a dual setup from one output before.

            • Surely it would only output the same image tho. You couldnt have 3 seperate indivitual displays running.

              • Moooohahahahahahah...damn....did I spell that right....

Well.....I am getting a CARD with the computer....But I assume that if you want two cards...they have to be the same card....I think one of the new computers my friends has is equipped with an 8800...I wonder if I could swap out that with my Matrox Millenium 8MB....He probably would not even notice..

                • They need to match to run in SLI, but you should be able to use two different cards. One would have to be pci unless you have two PCI-E slots. There used to be some issues running ati's and nvidias together though.

                  • And I think they also need to be same make.. like only nvidia for example. As AFAIK you can only install one driver set which needs to include drivers for both cards.
That just what I picked up from the nvnews forums.

                    • pretty much all 8800's are the same card anyway just badge engineering involved in the different makes.

as long as they are both gt's or gtx's etc. there are a couple of exceptions.

                      • I used to run 2 cards one gforce agp and one ati pre radeon pci, I was able to install drivers for each one, was a loooong time ago so I don't remember all that was involved. Come to think of it our workstations back in max 4 days had a similar setup a gforce 3 and whatever pci vid cards we had laying around. Windows should detect them and ask for each ones drivers. Haven't tried it since pci-e came around so...

Anyways XP is supposed to support up to 6 vid cards or something like that

                        • Ah ok cool. SHould be certainly do able then. I was thinking of sticking my 7800gtx back in so that I can use its "vivo" capability to capture video.

Might give that a go on the weekend if I can find the space in my case.

I was meaning as long as they are all nvidia or all ati, not all asus, xfx..etc..
But as RErender said you should be able to mix them up just fine.. i.e. ATI and Nvidia.

Heh, I did disclaimer that a few times, I have heard of issues in mixing brands and I have not tried it with pci-e

I doubt anything will explode if you try it though.

                            • I think it would certainly be easier if they were all nvidia or ati, but im also sure its possible to mix them

Like you said.. cant hurt to try

                              • you cant run SLI or CROSS fire without all nvidia or all ati cards

but you can run two cards of any type for quad monitor purposes.

however they wont boost you game speeds

and sli or x fire does not benifit max view port speeds anyway. i did plenty of research into this before deciding x fire or sli is basically a waste of money.
