  • V-ray Fur, Fur map modifier, Fur Material -- Which is the one to use?

As the title suggests, I'm getting a little lost on what the difference between them all is and when to use what.

I want to create some nice realistic carpet and have been using Vray Fur which seems to be giving me decent results. My question is: How can I map a reflection map for some bright/dull spots like somebody has walked on it to it to make it a little more realistic? Is it just a matter of plugging say a noise map modifier into the reflection slot of the material assigned? Will that map to the whole carpet area or each individual strand though?... that's where I'm getting a little confused.

Thank you very much Mnietek2707 !!!!
              very informative for me !!

I did not think the squares were made from the base geometry of the rug ... I was thinking more about a mix and/or a composite with procedural and/or bitmap in the Bend / Initial direction slot , and so on.
In fact, it's simpler but much more efficient!
I'm going to play my way based on your example, thank you again for your sharing
