Just to double check... Vantage doesn't support displacement, correct? This is a deal breaker for 90% of my exteriors. I am assuming, once it does, we'll be a lot closer to GPU render speeds.

You are correct - Vantage doesn't currently support displacement.
That said, it is something the team is working on, and we hope to support displacement in the not-too-distant future.
    Stay tuned!

I usualy model everything, from siding to asphalt shingles. However, I am working on a house with wood cedar shakes, which I can't model, so I need displacment. Maybe next time/

Why can't you model them Bobby, out of interest? I recently did a thing with cedar shingles and they seem simple enough, so just curious if yours are some particlar sort.

I have managed to simulate displacement 99% in Vantage but with very high costs of performance (I mean in 3DS Max, lots of RAM usage, over 100 GB). Click image for larger version

You can use standard Displacement modifier, so maybe just use this for close-ups and bump / normal for distant objects?

I preferably use displace modifier with two stacks of turbo smooth and in the vray mtl I use normal + bump with at least 30% intensity.

Distant objects I use only normals and bumps because it is a waste of resources...

I tried modeling cedar shakes, but I couldn't pull it off. I can invest more time, when I have some time.

I was going to put this one through Vanatge, but I would lose my roof detail. Click image for larger version

Displacement (Turbosmooth x 7 + Displace + Another Turbosmooth x 1) + Normals and Bumps at 100% (Ground and tires)
                      A true beauty, isn't it?

So, the secrete is using MAX's displacement?

Yep. Good ol' Max Displacement and Turbosmooth

May I ask you, with your permission, of course, you can send me the house you have posted (complete project with textures) and to try to apply the roof some my "magic" displacement formulas that I have experienced in the past months.

The sad part is that the displace function will take a very long time from now on to be implemented natively in Vantage and so far I have managed to come very close to true v-ray displacement in Vantage, with my little formula
