On the other hand I paid for 1.09 and the forth coming 1.0 lol, but instead I get 1.5 for the price of a $30 dongle.

Really a strange position to be in concerning software
Really? $30 seems like nothing. You have to pay $1000 everytime they upgrade max every 18 month or so. People have not had to pay an upgrade or maintenance fee for Vray since March 2002. While $30 is more then $0, it is a lot better then paying lets say $700/year/per license to renderman for their support. That is just my feeling about it. I can see your POV.

FWIW: I love to pay $30 for being able to transfer my license without the need for internet access. I have had NO trouble with (lots of) dongles in the past, so let's bring them on. Of course I would love the 1.5 update more

Well, I wish Chaos the best in this implementation and hope it works out for the community as well.

I apparently have to buy an add-on USB card now as well as the dongle.... LOL.

This is often the case when something new is being introduced.
Humans are inherently conservative and don't like change so there will naturally be some kind of backlash regardless of whether the decision is good or not.

As far as the dongle goes:

I like the fact that we can transfer a license very easily with the dongle.

Missing work is a very large concern of mine as I am a "one man show" and if I don't work my family gets no money. You said Vlado, a working build can be arranged. This will be a necessity for me and makes me far more confident in the whole dongle issue.

$30.00 plus shipping. Please, this is a cheap price to pay for what we are getting with 1.5. I don't see this being anymore of a risk as a hardrive failing or network failure. Sooner or later it will happen and it sounds to me like they are covering as many bases as they possibly can.

To be honest, I would have been willing to pay a lot more than that for 1.5 considering all the features we were never promised that are now a part of the build.

Generoisity is a wonderful thing, and chaos has proved they have a lot of it. It's now our turn. Were do I send the money and hell, I may even include a little extra for Christmas for the guys from chaos. The Christmas bonus I got was due in no small part, to their software.

.. and asking a developer for a poll about protectionconcept cant be serious... anyway 7 month since the last beta beta update!!!!

One more question... for those that are not ready for the new transfer over to 1.5... can they still use version 1.47.03 in its current protection scheme?

Besides arent we going to start paying for updates after 1.5? I am fine with vlado taking his time. I get so behind on upgrades I am still on ps 7.

People will work with old versions for a long time, I'm still on 1.46.12 because I havn't had time to upgrade yet, and the files I just made HAVE to work in atleast 1-2 years from now. If clients want something fixed on an old project and I have to say "no can do" then they will shoot me.

Thats good to hear, what would the deal be though? would we get sent a copy by email thats only limited to like 30 days or something? still a little edgy on the connect to the internet bit, I know some companys that don't have their workstations connected for security.

I have no problem whatsoever with dongles and I like the idea of being able to move around with my license. The problem I see is the unprecedented cost of $30 + shipping for those of us who bought years ago. Stuff like these are difficult to explain to those who sign the checks. I know - I know we got more than we have asked for but it would have been a lot easier if I was just buying new licenses...

But anyways, we will support and comply to whatever the consensus is. Its just that I am a little edgy and still uncomposed on how to explain it since its not purchase season for us yet and we've just spent a couple of grands for MAX upgrades...
