    Peter/Vlado,

Im curious as to how the online licence works. (the one that you can use if you loose/break/forget your dongle).

Say I were to travel interstate with a laptop and forgot my beloved dongle and say someone came up to me on the street and asked me to render them a teapot would I just be able to enter my auth details and get access to the vray gui by authenticating over the net?
Does this feature have a limited number of uses per month for instance, and would you chaps need to be contacted to let you know I needed to use the online auth so you could allow access or something?

Also with the dongles, in an office of say 5 pc's do all the dongles have to be in the machine with the vrlserver running or can they be in any machine and the vrlserver will find them and add all the licences up?
For example say the server is in a locked server room, but each employee also wants to use vray at home. Could they have their dongles plugged into their own office machine instead of the server (the server being where the vrlserver is) and then take them home to work on at home?

    Thanks... great work guys

We all seem to be speculating some here DaForce, but wouldn't the Dongle in essence be replacing the vrlserver.exe? I'm guessing after uninstalling our old versions and installing our 1.5 versions, that the dongles themselves become what the other workstations are looking for, where ever they may be plugged inat on your network?

I'm kind of curious about the recommended procedure for uninstalling all old versions and upgrading to all new versions acrrosed my 24 PC network? That could make for a long weekend for me

No, the vrlserver still exists (but probabaly in a new form) as both Vlado and Peter mentioned it and its abiliity to combine all the licences together.

You can simply connect to your office and use your license from there. Otherwise, setting up a license for you on our server will require some communication between you and us - similar to how you would request a temp license for your laptop with the current system.

For now, there are two options in that case - the employees can either connect to the vrlserver from their homes, or they simply can be running a vrlserver locally on each machine. In theory, the dongle drivers do allow a dongle from one machine to be read from another, but we have not investigated this in detail.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

Ah ok, gotcha so basically you would connect to the workplace vrlserver, and if for whatever reason you couldnt contact that and you didnt have a dongle on you, you would need to contact you guys to get an online auth setup just as you would now?
Basically no difference compared to now really.

Ok so if you were to only have vrlserver on the server and no where else, then all the dongles would "have" to be on that machine.. for the time being anyway, is that right?
Unless of course you ran a seperate vrlserver on each machine then people can use the dongles on their workstations.

Will we be able to chose our shipping options later, before the dongles are sent out? I will gladly bear the cost of a shipping option with tracking.

I worry a little (ok, actually I worry a lot!) about my local situation where I hear about people receiving empty envelopes... especially if the dongle looks like a USB flash drive.

My boss and co-worker are going to be there. We have 2 licences at work.
I have my own personal licence. I am wondering if it is possible
for my boss to pick up my dongle while he is there. If so, what will I
need to provide to chaos/my boss to make it possible ?

                      Regards,
                      Mike

Hey Da_elf...I did sign up a few days ago. Can my boss pick up my dongle ? I was thinking that I have to provide my boss some info to
give to chaos when hes there, because it will be for my own personal
                            copy of Vray.

                            Thanks,
                            Mike

Thats a good question, If we can have someone else pick up our dongles that would rock, and save time/money on both sides.

i made sure to ask vlado before he left. i think he might have gone to siggraph with enough dongles to give to those people who put "SIGGRAPH" as the delivery address. ive got a student who is going to siggraph and vlado said it was ok for me to send a note with him to get my dongle. who knows how many dongles vlado went with. (maybe i should send a bottle of rum with my student to give to vlado to see if i can bribe him to get another liscence for free hehehe)
