I'm sure there will be the odd bug to fix here and there, but other than that, the final will be the same (e.g. no new features added until we get this out).

I can't get it to work - it's constantly saying it can't find the license. All I did was run the installer, my IP address hasn't changed, the dongle's plugged in, and VRayLicenseServer is running fine.

I just reinstalled RC1, and it works fine...

I think the problem is that we changed the vrlservice port number to 30304, so that it doesn't conflict with the old vrlserver from the 1.4 versions. You will need to update this from the Authorization dialog. Let me know if this helps or not.

          Best regards,

            vlado:

You should have received an automatic confirmation email that we have received your request. If you didn't get that, let us know either by email or phone.

Any news on releasing schedule for academic version of new V-ray 1.5?
Is there going to be the same licensing system ( dongle ) as with commercial version?

yes it will use the dongle as well and we should have the academic version by the end of the week.

I installed from the disk from siggraph. It is rc1. What are the main differences from rc1 to rc2 ?
Just wondering if I should be in a hurry to upgrade.

                      Regards,
                      Mike

                          from the changelog of RC2....

                          Build 1.50.RC2 (7 August 2006)
                          ==============================

(*) VRaySun could not be used as a viewport camera.
(*) The installer did not install all the necessary files for vrlservice.exe and setvrlservice60.exe (libmmd.dll, msvcr70.dll and msvcp70.dll) in the appropriate location.
(*) DR now works with the Incremental Save option of 3dsmax.
(*) V-Ray would crash for rendering in the Material Editor if a valid license could not be found.
(*) V-Ray could crash in distributed rendering mode.
(*) The default port for the V-Ray license server is changed to 30304 since it conflicted with the old VRLServer.
                          sounds like a definite MUST-upgrade...

so, is the rc2 in the support section the demo or not? Getting confused by different threads about 1.5...

RC2 in the support section is the legit version if you have a dongle.
