The original idea was to render large scenes with many millions of polygons, cached to disk or generated on the fly.
Are you talking about somthing similar to Rib-Archiving? if so it would be great. It is a really good way to render very large scenes such as a city filled with high res buildings.

groovy stuff. so the fur objects are just instanced, you still need shag to animate it?

Maybe we'll have some very simple fur generator in VRay, but for more complex stuff you'll need Shag:Hair. It has much more precise control over the shape, placement and color of hair strands.

well, a preset for grass, leaves on trees (does it work too?) and maybe short fur would be nice

                  very usefull idea btw.!

very nice - the only bad news for us - that it is still with max - no news about a stand alone and maya version

anyway - next week gona take a renderman course - till vray goes beyond max have to look for something else than the slow mental ray renderer

Displacement is looking very sharp and precise, did u used bitmap or maybe something else (vector garaphics?) Anyway it will be really useful for modelling fronts/ornaments ect.
                        wish you bests.

                              Max is cheaper then renderman
and it comes with a fast scanliner too... You should really change your focus...

If you think mental-ray is slow its intersting how you will call the speed of raytracing with renderman.
