May be there are smarter ways to do it, but this works for me:

Copy the 3ds max folder with a different name

Now during 1.45.70 installation point the newly copied directories.

Create a new direct acces labelled 1.45 that points the new 3ds max with 1.45.70 directory.

          So I have good old 1.09.03r + 1.45.70

Only thing is Backlburner still points old 1.09.03r install.

There seems to be an issue with some users who have Windows XP Home. WinXP Pro should work ok.

If you have a firewall, don't forget to authorize the VRay license server if not the license don't work

I have a peer to peer network where one PC acts like a MickeyMouseServer. This machine runs day and night and this machine would be the best place to install the Vray license.

The problem is, that this machine don´t have any 3dmax on it and I can´t install the vray license on it. So I have to install it on an other PC with max and have to run this PC (for Vray license) + my MickeyMouseServer (for textures and so on) to run VRay with max on another Workstation?

You only need to copy the VRLServer.exe from the 3ds max dir to the computer you want to be the licence server. Then just run the exe and generate a licence request.

Also you'd want to add a shortcut to it in the startup group so that it starts when you boot the server, or make it load as a service with one of the programs that can do this.

you can use the windows scheduler to run an app at boot time. so you dont have to log-in, as with autostart apps.
it would be more elegant if the license server was a real service though.
