I agree with suurland that a stable release is slowly necessary. Not that
vray wouldn´t be stable at the moment. I think it is . But all the small releases in the past brought me sometimes really into trouble. Old scenes
didn´t work as expected. Suddenly features that worked well in another
version made trouble in a newer build and so on.
This can be an absolute
killer if you have tight deadlines to meet !
Please just release a final version of the features we currently have.
At the moment it really seems like there is to much in the queue.
As red in previous post there are still new features for 1.5 that need to be implemented. I see a 64 bit version is in progress... a standalone version ...
a maya version...a linux version and god knows what else.
Regarding the linux/standalone version there is still one things I asked for
several times and still didn´t get an answer. How will we edit materials in
the future ?? Will there be a vray material editor or will we still be able
to use the max editor ? I´ve now seen a lot of material editors
and the max editor is by far the best I can imagine. Other´s are mighty as well. But to get a custom flexible material the idea behind the max
editor still seems to be outstanding.
Hopefully we will not be forced
to use ready made shaders like Mental Ray or other renderers use them.
With just a few settings (compared to a mental ray shader) and in conjunction with the max material editor features the vray material offers the possibility to create any thinkable material within minutes.
From a skinshader to glass.. wax, rocks, carmetal and so on and so on.
Please Chaosgroup my biggest wish !! Keep vray compatible
to the max material editor. I highly doubt that a standalone vray material editor would be as flexible as the max editor (no offence, pure speculation, my opinion).
The material editor is nearly the most important part of a renderer.
From my point of view the future releases of vray mostly point to
the big animation studios with real production pipelines.
Hopefully I´m wrong..
