Absolutely, currently learning the process so I can make them fully compatible across vray

          • fantastic shader!.
What about including Damascus metal in your shader and tutorial?
I've been trying through OSL without success so far

Wicker is something very tricky too, not easy to get it photo real from shader and modelling takes ages!

            • Maybe already mentioned, but often need good powder coat paints, especially black. I can never seem to get it right...
              Anyway, the progress looks great!

              • It's a tough one - the anti aliaser will always see that as noise so you're in sampling hell...

                • I too would LOVE to hear about powder coats. We have had to do several animations with them lately and they are brutal!

What would be a the better approach to the powder coat materials? I figured I would be in sampling hell anyways.

                  • Car paint I'd say - they get baked to something a bit more bitmapish and then filtered for stability - procedurals are going to be harsh, especially with animation. For stills, just turn down your quality

Quite an easy shader to replicate, the banding lines can be created with a Bercon map and planar mapping
will see what i can do

Damascus have a reflection oriented differently from on vein to another one, due to the manufacturing process. Tried with different anisotropy applied to vrayblend with a mask but it was not looking good and was very long to render.

                            • Very first attempt.

There are a lot of errors in the procedural itself but I'm just trying to figure out the glossiness values atm and the brdf curve.

How could you get your first attemp better than thousand on my side? Hope you will deliver your secret on your tutorial soon.
Procedural, for example, are impossible to predict and understand, so I went back to basic bitmap.
                                it looks promising.
