No, the road has been completely upgraded.
You are still welcome to use 2.4 which will still be supported for a while. That is the road you were driving for free.

Chaos have been saying for a while now that the business model needed to change, so it has been coming for a while. This forum alone with direct access to the guys coding the stuff is worth more that the cost of the render licenses.

Thanks Vlado and the team for all the free stuff you have given over the years, and will continue to give I am sure.
And I don't see it being an Autodesk situation, with a new version each year, were the new features are bug fixes for problems from 12 years ago. or just bugs themselves.

Bobby i mistook your sig for that of cubiclegangster.
      Entirely my bad. ^^

      • I submitted a bug to Autodesk not so long ago, it went something like this:

After I filled out the form it told me that there will not be a chance they will contact me, and if they get a chance to review my report it may be logged into their system. I never heard back about the issue and just had to suck it up and do the work I needed to do with that particular problem in their software.

Is this the support you want to get for paying subscription and annual releases?

I don't see how scriptspot can fix mudbox memory leak issue

            • Lately, I don't see how ScriptSpot can fix anything, as the whole place seems like a mess, and people are submitting scripts that emulate existing tools and sometimes without links to the script.
              What happened to that place?

That's not how this upgrade works at all and you really need to do some more reading about it. If you dont go for it you can still use whatever you want. It's just that if you do pay for it, you can use both versions for a limited time to give you chance to transition. Nobody is taking vray away from you.

The electric company is charging for every outlet, if you plug something in every outlet you draw more power and pay more electricity.

                  • Thought I'd stay out of this discussion, but the level of derp in general is getting to me.

You just described charging Watts/time (what really happens in most countries) while simultaneously declaring it was something else.

To the rest of this thread: Personally, I can very much relate to the need for this new price hike, but I would have preferred they just upped the price per workstation-license a bit and included a decent amount of rendernode licenses, to better accommodate smaller studios with makeshift renderfarms (i.e using other workstation to render when available).
They could then make a whole new license bundle for renderfarms that need large amounts of render node licenses, and adjust the price accordingly (tiered bulk discount maybe).

As it is now, I fear renderfarms out there will start upping their prices considerably in the future when being "VRay-Ready", combined with the fact that the new system probably will cost more for smaller studios with 2-10 rendernodes and a handful of workstations (in percentage) than for larger studios with lots of licenses (both workstation and rendernode).

that's what I thought at first too, and it kind of worried me, as we almost exclusively rely on render farms these days to have final images rendered. Vlado said they shouldn't be affected though, as chaos offer them a different kind of licensing. it was a post from maybe a week ago, possibly on this same thread, but I can't find it right now.

                      • ...If it allow chaosgroup to remain away from big brother, we should not complained, and I even approved.
...In the opposite, if getting bulky $ attract big brother, then we will all gone mad...

With all the extra money, Chaos is going to develop V-Ray for Revit, and put us all our of business.

Heh, I wouldn't fear that; like I said in another thread, people can render in Revit even now. Besides, even though you could get an image out of Revit, there are so many limitations compared to what you can do in 3ds Max...

                            Best regards,
