It was right before and is wrong now. See how the right eye can see more bottles on the wine rack than the left and the left eye can see more of the bookshelf than the right.Click image for larger version

    • Okay, swapped it back.

Do you guys have any recommendations regarding the use or not of focus and method of focus? (ie camera toe)

      • Client has just mentioned the words GearVR to me, does that mean I need to render cube maps or will it be able to ready stereo LAT-LONG panoramics?

You're bot obliged to do cube pano, lat-long will work, cube is just a better use of pixels distribution

            • regarding rendering spherical panoramas or cube for stereo output.
Is there any difference regarding quality in the stereo effect? I always have a conversation with my boss regarding this, he argues that it may be correct to do it cubit, that the way it render is more precise and spherical panoramas fake the parallax.
do you guys have any input about it?
              thanks.

              • 6x1 cube looks significantly better and doesn't feature any noticeable distortion, he's right. spherical has a ton of pinching and distortion top and bottom.

                • Right, well that being said, I really would like to be able to view those cube panos on oculus. I can't find any app that lets you view cube maps on oculus. It seems it's "only" working for gear VR, and that drives me crazy

I hope someone will prove me wrong.
Any idea of what soft I could use to be able to see those pano on oculus DK2 easily?

                  Thanks

                  • I used virtual desktop for a while. with virtual desktop it tries to make your desktop slightly visible over it in a screen kind of blending mode, but if you make a black image in paint and fullscreen it you've got a clean view.

                    • meaning you don't see your desktop? You wont have a black frame overlayed of your pano floating around?
even if that works, I still dont find virtual desktop a clean enough solution, it involve too much hacks to get it working

                      • 6x1 cube may look better but there should not be a difference regarding the stereo effect. Spherical could also look fine but it is a matter of smarter player and heavier filtering.
Top and bottom distortion occurs if the player just sample one or several nearest sphere points.

i managed to convert a cube map to equirectangular just so we could view it on our occulus. Pretty disappointed with the occulus rift I must say, hopefully the gearVR will be better!

                          • Yes as it seems, the gear VR is way better than the Oculus.
I haven't experienced the grear VR yet but what I hear around me is :
                            oculus : "yes it's cool"
gear VR : "this is mind blowing", "absolutely amazing", "how could I live without it", "I'll sell my baby for one of those" etc

So unless the oculus population is really incredibly more picky, it seems the gear vr really stands out compared to oculus.
I hope someone that has experienced both sets with the same scene would be able to make a objective comparison point.

I'm in the process of getting the cubemap working with KRPano, haven't been able to make it work yet, but when it will, then this could be a viable alternative to all players using cubemaps, cross sets, cross platforms.

                            • It's weird that it is like that especially since the GearVR is a partnership between OCULUS and Samsung. So what did Samsung add to that besides the logo on the outside?
                              Kind Regards,

The two most important factors that GearVR does better than the Rift is resolution and the absence of a wire. I think wireless VR is the way to go, and low resolution is still a huge problem (I have a Rift DK2, and it's not enough). Unfortunately I still haven't had a chance to try the GearVR.
