If I set glossiness to something like 0.5 I would not expect to get a clear carpaint like reflection. Just compare the floor of your images on page 2. This is the only difference I see to Corona. And it´s not really the shading model it´s simply the fix dark glossy edges option. Once it´s turned off it probabely will look exactly like Corona. I´m pretty sure many people are not aware of this behaviour. As far as I can say for a floor this option is not needed as I never experienced dark glossy edges in this case. Yes there are floors that look like this but there are also many floors that don´t. With the current default settings those looks are not to achive. I don´t think anything needs to change. People just need to be aware of this behaviour.

interesting... who is actually fighting?... but stil good discussion and the shading models i think have some issues, with large floors if its set to ggx it takes sometime more to render so i set these to blinn

Vlado, could there be a difference in how the noise is distributed on the image?
I remember reading about how the human eye uses the poisson model and so maybe vray and corona use different noise models.
I have the feeling that some people like corona bc it renders an image very quickly with a type of noise that isn't anoying to the eye.
So even if the final result in both engines is the same, the difference is in the first 20 seconds or so.

Nope, I don't think so. If you look at the images that I posted, the V-Ray ones have less noise. For this scene, the first 20 seconds don't show anything meaninful anyways

hmmm then am wondering is this can be used on large scenes instead of adaptive, i need to test that out and see

What I meant is more the type of noise than the quantity.
So even if an image is more noisy than another, it may be more pleasant to look at just because the noise structure is more compatible with the eye.

<shrug> I haven't noticed anything of the sort between V-Ray and Corona specifically. But everyone is entitled to their opinion...

the "best looking" noise I've seen is metropolis light transport in Kerkythea. But all noise ultimately sucks.

Sorry. It wasn't an opinion. I was just wandering whether this could be the case.

U took the idea out of my mind, I actually don't use IMap anymore. Since I switch between GPU RT and Advance, using IMap actually makes your renderings washed out when you try to render it in active shade (I ran into this with one of my older files). But yes, with the denoiser, you will have NO reason to use IMAP and I guess Vlado can kiss it good bye at some near future release.

Here is the same scene passed through the denoiser:

                        Original:

                        and denoised:

Not fully ideal, obviously, but hopefully still useful.

that looks very impressive vlado! does the denoiser still require two images to get a clean result?

I'm not sure what you mean? Our denoiser never required two images and I don't plan to change that.

In the next service pack, so hopefully in a couple of weeks or so.
