      Thanks for that Natty

I seem to have exported the models successfully but, how do I get them back into max ?

      I tried the

doVRayMeshImport() but this doesn't work from max script.

Also, is there a list of max script commands for vray like the list max provides ?

      Thanks again

            Hi

Does the imported vrmesh file show the materials of the original model ?

            Thanks

              no, it doesnt.
              (found that out today ).
it explains it in the help file.
but all you have to do is give the proxy the org mat.
              and it work fine!

I must confess I'm rather shocked at the way this is implemented. I hope this is meant as a temporary sollution. There is allready an interface that pops up when typing the command in the listener, but why is this not a part of the vray proxy objects UI? Or part of the regular max export/import?

well it's simple to make a macroscript for a menu entry...i guess it will not stay this way.

There should be an option in the right-click viewport menu already, if I'm not mistaken.

It is missing from the quads(atleast in Max6), it was there in ealier 1.45 builds though , as I remember.

I have a rather large project totaling approx 5 million faces.

                            There are two options;

                            1. Optimise the models to within an inch of its life or

                            2. Utilise the vrmesh facitlity.

In your opinion, would the vrmesh facility be able to do the job ?

I have found that models brought in are not aligned correctly and the materials have to be reassigned. Neither are a major problem but, are there any further irregularities that may affect the process ?

Thanks for your time and help

I did not had any other problem then you allready say.
                              namely mat + position.
position is very easy: the vray mesh hold its original 0 point, so just use your move tool and set x and y to 0.
for mat, just pick the ones out of your org. file in mat editor and reapply to your vray mesh, it contains all the parameters so no sweat.
