it would certainly be interesting to have a lens simulator, with a list of different lenses used in film and photography integrated into the vray camera for example.

I'd love to have this, especially if there's a way to make your own lens shapes.

A film simulator would be great, too.

I don't use blender but there has been some excitement about this in their realm. I have seen some max buzz about it as well. Maybe put an official sticky someplace and see how people comment on it here on the forums? Or someplace where people would actually see it and be able to comment.

you have all the tools at your disposal in VRay. just render some images.
I have not check the new one in Blender but from what I have read there is nothing new.

              That would be awesome!
Maybe it can be implemented with a warning, or somewhat hidden like the BDPT back then. Would love to try it!

Well, there is some phenomena I could not replicate with V-Ray, or at least I don't know how.
                See this thread, for example:

                Or swirly Bokeh like this:

The option for the "swirly" Bokeh is called "optical vignetting" in the V-Ray physical camera.

We made an Idea in our portal. We would like to know how many people are interested in having a Lens simulator. Please feel free to share ideas, comments, and votes here.

Shiny new features, jay, all good and all, but how about fixing long standing bugs first? Or having support for VrayDecal in ForestPack/Railclone/ChaosScatter, VrayMultiSubTex probability, Standalone VFB, better control over AerialPerspective / Environment Fog, ....

Things that are actually asked and needed more than a lens simulator at this moment.
                        A.

All of these are either being considered or already being worked on.

Thanks for the hint. I am sure I already played with those settings, but I can't remember getting a good result.

You can give them a try again, together with the distortion settings and compare to other methods. If you feel you still can't get good results, let us know and we can look into it.

                                Best regards,
