  • VRayBitmap Viewport Texture Previews - 6.1

After the 6.1 update VRayBitmap textures don't show up in the viewport any more. Toggling the "Show Shaded Material in Viewport" has no effect. Regular 3ds Max Bitmap materials show up fine. I noticed in the new features list there's the line: "Deferred loading of the VRayBitmap viewport previews". What does that mean exactly? Is there another way to show texture previews? This is obviously a big deal when it comes to texture mapping. Surely I'm missing something obvious.

Yeah same here, they show up initially but as soon as you change one parameter the viewport textures disappear and the the model turns grey. No issues in 6.0. After rebooting 3Ds Max it’s fine until you change a parameter again, then same thing again

      Hello,

Thank you for the quick feedback. I managed to reproduce the issue and prepared a note for our developers to look into.

It works when showing realistic materials, so a temp workaround until a fix maybe.

Oh, that's odd. For me it is basically a 1:1 match.
I don't normally use that method though, as it takes longer to update in the viewport, so it's not anything but a workaround, other than reverting to 6.

Works! Never used that before. Thanks for the workaround.

I thought I was doing something wrong. That's quite annoying. And no realistic materials for me ever, very slow performance like that. Flat shaded all the way.

I had to install the older version due to this issue. Looking forward to the fix.

Today's stable nightlies (https://nightlies.chaos.com/main#/vr...e_6.1/20230217) have a fix for this issue.
We need to fix one more issue (possible crash when opening scenes with many bitmaps with viewport preview).

I had a scene with an object isolated in previous build. When I unisolate it starts compiling shaders and just freezes Max with latest stable nightly. Going to roll back to previous stable and see if it's the same problem.

Edit: It works in hotfix 3 so defo the update at fault

Hi, with the latest hotfix it seemed to have fixed the disappearing of the textures.

However some stuff still behaves quite weird:
                              - When playing with the Offset Parameters in the Coordinates Tab the viewport preview turns black for a while
                              - When the Overall Multiplier is anything else than 1 the wrong brightness is shown. For example 1.1 is much darker than 1.
                              - Same with Render Multiplier
                              - Setting the Filtermultiplier to anything else than 1 fades the texture in the viewport to a very dark version
