I also have the slow material editor prob. Hah, I thought it was just me.

and HP's site has been promising printer drivers "soon" for months now.

I'm pretty happy with everything else win64, except, I recently discovered that when rendering to AVI uncompressed in Premiere pro 2.0, it works, yet win64 can't play/open the file with win media player, or win media encoder 32 or 64.
I thought I was producing corrupted files through Premiere, until I finally realized that I could open them on an older XP 32 machine.

geoffc - thank you very much! i had this exact problem today with a fusion comp. I thought i was going to go insane. I should have tried on a 32bit machine.

        slow Materials Editor

I have the slow Materials editor too...

I wonder if the new extension-patch from Autodesk which is just around the corner will fix that. And I also wonder if the 1.5 final is somewhat tied to that release???

I've got this problem, and so many more problems with Max 9 64.

Every time i re-open the material editor, i've got to wait about 3-4minutes before i can use max again while each stupid little matieral slot takes ages to load. This is such an issue, i use it almost every 30 seconds or so!

I have to wait for a few minutes at the beginning of each render while it transforms vertices; again another problem fixed in rc4.

I've emailed and politely requested a fix, but no responce. I don't understand why other people are supplied with a fix, and some not. We all know that the RC's are release candidates; i know that there is a risk in using RC4, but there is the same risk in using RC3 or RC2 etc. etc.

At the moment i have some really annoying performance issues that are real hiderances to my workflow, and nobody knows when the next release will be. Is it going to be like 1.47 + when it was practically years before the next official release? I just can't keep using max this way when i recogn i'm waisting about an hour or two hours a day just waiting for Max to come back under my control...

***sorry for the rant, just getting frustrated...***

Does it help if you set the ME to only update the active slot?

I try to leave the material editor open, and just move it down to the bottom, without minimizing it. Normally it doesn't have to regen as much this way.

From what I hear from u guys, 64bit land is really scary
Will it be - or is it now - worse with vista 64?

This might be worth a try:

System tab > check dynamic memory limit to 2000MB or similar (800-1200MB at least) depending on your amount of RAM
Even your default geometry is treated as static, VRay proxies/ebjects and VRay displacement modifier are threated dynamically.

                            I hope this helps.

I also have problems with slow material editor. It's a bit better with RC4 but still. Ive found out that material editor is only slow when working you have even one multi-sub material...then you're doomed .

Well, this particular issue seems to affect mental ray as well (multi/sub materials) or so they say on the Autodesk discussion forum, so I don't think there is much to be done on the V-Ray side.

                                Best regards,
