dagnabit! I'm having the issue again, but this time, without Fresnel. I have rendered the scene 20x's without an issue, but all of a sudden, it's stuck! And it;s also taking forever to cancel. Any clues?

I canceled the scene last night, and it was still hanging this morning. The odd thing is other camera views work just fine. All the materials are the same, except for one, so I'll look into that.

I'm working on something in that regard...

Having similar issues with a few different scenes, I don't think it is just a localised area which is particually difficult to render, I do a lot of architectural renderings so a lot of the same surface areas, this is no different, the entire image takes 4-5 minutes to render, the last one continues the render time for another 30mins!!! it's also defo not a hardware issue (24 threads and 24gig RAM) 2x Xeon X5650's @ 2.67GHZ)... Latest Vray (2.20.03) max 2012 64bit Service Pack 2..

If you re-render, it is always the same bucket?

I've solved this problem by reducing the bucket size. (as someone suggested earlier in this thread). If I use LC retrace threshold option the problem resurface again no matter what bucket size I'm using. This is most evident on heavy production ready scenes. I have a couple of dual xeon machines with 16GB of RAM and two i7 3930K with 32GB of RAM so I really don't think it's a RAM/slow cpu issue.

another stuck job. I have rendered out 4 other views, without issue, and this one worked earlier. Now, it has been stuck for hours, and I can't cancel it. The stuck buckets are from the local workstation, which is WIN 7x64. I'm running 3DS MAX 2013 and the latest V-Ray build.

I did an "end task" to terminate MAX, launched MAX again, and rendered the same camera without any issues. I did turn off LC retrace threshold, but nothing else changed. The earlier try sat for hours, with six hrs remaining, and this one finished in 1hr 18min.

                    • Ok then, whenever you get that again, it would be very helpful if you can get me a mini dump of the 3dsmax.exe process (using f.e. Process Explorer from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx) This will tell me exactly where the thing is stuck so that I can fix it.

                      Best regards,

                      • I was rendering an old motion graphics project and notice a bucket was getting stuck.
I changed the bucket order from Hilbert to top to bottom and it no longer stuck.
                        Might be worth a try.

P.S. I haven't read this entire thread, hopefully it hasn't been mentioned.
                        cheers

                        • I know this is an old thread but I was having problems today with a bucket getting stuck always at the same place. I turned up dynamic memory. I turned off GI, I tried region rendering, I even imported the scene into a new file and was stuck at the same place. What eventually worked for me was to change the size of the image. it was at 3500*1589 so I upped the size to 4096*1862. just to see I downsized it to 1536*698 and it worked fine there as well. Just thought I would share if someone else is still getting problems this might help.
