  • Mud Rendering

I am getting a very muddy render and an error that I don't understand. I reset V-Ray and restarted MAX, but the error continues. I can render with RT on the CPU just fine. I tried both IRR+LC and BF+LC, but both are muddy. What am I missing?

The warning in the vray info dialog? Could that be causing it?

That's my question. What does it mean? My min and max are set correctly.

Still having a muddy mess, so it wasn't the material. RT CPU and Progressive is fine, but bucket rendering is broken. Everything is default and I can raise my max subdivs to 100 and noise threshold to .003, but it is still a muddy mess in my shadows and anything dark. I do have a small window with vray sun/sky.

I would use progressive, saving out each render element, but I use PSD Manager, which doesn't work with progressive.

Have you tried resetting your settings, merging into a new scene and hiding the glass material?
                A.

You can use Progressive and save the render elements, but not the psd-manager masking features - because V-ray does not provide deep data when rendering progressive.

PSD Manager creates masks based on deep data ?

Yes, V-ray provides deep data via the G-Buffer and psd-manager extracts anti-aliased masks for everything you want (3ds max layers, objects, object-ids, material-ids.) You can easily do hundreds of them. Something that would take huge amounts of memory via MultiMatte render elements. For example you can simply type "1-100" into the Objects-ID edit field of psd-manager and are done. You will always have a mask for each object-id you applied in the scene available and only for stuff that is actually appearing. Photoshop is very efficient with many layers/channels that cover just a portion of the frame - so that is also easy to handle in post.

I use layers for everything, so all my layers are masked. Each layer is a material or color. I can't imagine doing this any other way, at least proficiently.

The term layer is always confusing when speaking of Photoshop and 3ds max at the same time. You mean you organize your 3dsmax layers based on the material or color the objects have. Then just have psd-manager create masks for all your 3ds max layers?

******had to remove the video to NDA****** PSD manager for MAX 2017 is still in beta.

I recorded my screen showing how I use it.

I just purchased Camtasia, so I'll probably be recording more often. Let me know how the quality is (audio and video). The software is expensive, so I better use it
