  • Nuke 6.3 Deep Pixel support?

Has anyone developed a workflow yet to get deep pixel data into Nuke 6.3 from Vray? Or do we need to wait for EXR 2.0?

from what I've seen that's a exr 2.0 thing. does it have any uses beyond hair and volumetrics?

Lots of little tiny occluding particles and DOF. Which is precisely what I'm currently rendering.

No, you won't have to wait for EXR 2.0; we are working on our own plugin for Nuke that loads V-Ray deep pixel files. It will take a couple of weeks though, seeing as how Nuke was just released...

Lots of tiny occluding particles and DOF sounds like you'll end up with rather huge files :P

Whoo...sounds like good news...are you developing a whole new format or is it an extension of the vrimg? I am afraid that a vray only format could not establish itself as an industry standard which openExr already is. But anyway i am looking forward to see your approach!

Will you support OpenEXR2.0 with deep img data too once it is released?

            cheers

For the moment, this is the shade map file from the V-Ray stereoscopic helper (it is precisely a deep raster file), to see if the concept works properly. Later on we'd like to extend the .vrimg format since it is handled in a more workflow-friendly way.

Of course; I don't have any illusions in this regard and it is not the point at all; .vrimg files are not standard by any means, but they are still useful.

              Yes.

Definitely not in PS i'd say. PS doesn't even deal nicely with 32bit float, let alone deep. It might come, but pretty much every operation that is supposed to benefit from it needs to be tailored specifically for deep data and PS needs to add support for the data on the backend side. I do not really see that coming.

                    Regards,
                    Thorsten

Just bumping the thread a little
Any news on the Nuke plugin – and if V-Ray for Maya will also be able to render these files out?
                      Best Regards,

Still waiting for a Nuke license so that we continue the development...

Can't you just use the PLE version for testing?

                            Nope, it doesn't load plugins.

How could you help getting such deep pixel maps into Toxik/Composite ? Would a python script or a Toxik plugin do it ? Or maybe you will have to push autodesk foots to do it ?
