  • aND BOOM THERE WE GO! rEDSHIFT GOT aLSURFACE EQUIVALENT BEFORE vRAY.. AND i'M TESTING IT RIGHT NOW IT'S PRETTY COOL ( NOT AS COOL AS IN ARNOLD i FOUND BUT STILL REALLY NICE ) https://www.fxguide.com/quicktakes/r...s-version-2-0/

    Sorry for the capslock!

Edit : It's point cloud based, so it's why it don't look as good as in Arnold.. and it don't support the directionnal mode etc because of that.. they will implement it at some point thoguh.

    • i think they just have to prioritise, vray already has some great options for skin. doesn't mean it's not being worked on and they are probably working on a ton of other awesome things.

No, it's not dead; but I have some more important things to work on for a bit. The shader is still half-finished on my laptop and I will get to it once I finish what I'm working on now.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

Hopefully it's one of those "go on holidays and then everything's 13 times quicker" things you're working on

It look's great as long as you don't compare it with what Alsurface for Arnold do.. it's wayyyyy better then SSS2 ... and for priorities.. if you check my thread he's the one with the most views so far.. so I think numbers speak for themselve ^^

EDIT : Shaders are super important.. that's one of the big part that make all you'r image look better.. like me for now, I just can't get as good result as in Arnold in vray for characters sadly... but with the alsurface, I will be able so it's a big difference it will do!

Valdo : Great to know it's not dead! But when do you think you can finish it, any time frame? because I have to give some final render from my friend project and I would like to wait until I get that Alsurface from you.. but if it's to be in 4 months it's too long, so any idea ?

                  • Here is some test of the sub-surface component with directional scattering. Need to hook up texture maps next...

                    • Some comparison with the original, for the same render time (2m 50s). I still have more work to do on the implementation, but it looks quite close.

                      Best regards,

                        • Always nice to see how much faster Vray is in comparison with the competition. Vray looks way cleaner!

                          • Vlado could you post a render of this model with the SSS2 material too, as a comparison?

The controls are different, so it's not possible to get the exact same result, but I could try...
