Vray saves "bumpnormals" image automatically - I didn't tell him he should do so
The main reason is to distinguish noise on flat surfaces from bumped surfaces with small details. The two would have quite different bump normals and the denoiser would try to preserve the detail of the bumped surface, while denoising the flat one.
As I already mentioned here, we just released V-Ray 6 for Cienam4D, update 1 and with it we have added an option to save only the RGB Channel when denoiser or lens effects are active.
