      I wouldn't expect you to, I will definately go back to the old-style if this isn't rectified. What OS do you use?

      I'm curious, what drives do show up for both of you? Just the local C drive? Is there anything unusual about either of your network? Thanks for any extra info you can provide me

          I don't map network drives, I just browse My Network Places and go by computer name.

          Local drives show up in your dialog fine.

            Ok, yeah I don't think the control we use handles that situation...Alrighty, I'll come up with a replacement prior to lucky release 13 which should be tomorrow or friday.

              Little "bug": it could be good if the order of the materials would be in numerical order. At the moment it is: xxx8, xxx9, xxx10, xxx1, xxx11, ... .

              Maybe the automatic numered material could get some leading zeros.

                Currently material names cannot start with a numeral. I will sort the browse combo box though. Doing that will order the xxx1 - xxx10 properly.

                  • A couple of bugs

                    For the noise procedural:

                    The octaves arrows (to change value) are inversed.

                    The Perlin setting renders black even with no black used.

                      Hey guys....

                      Well, render looks grainy (shadow) I dunno why in this release, because in older ones shadow was fine, but I think better settings will solve it. But there are some more serious problems.



                      Crubadue, joeb, just somebody - download this video and watch it... It's not good but I think you will discover where the bugs are.. Here is description what I did:

                      1. downloaded and installed vray beta 13. On this system vray was never installed. Of course there was Rhinoceros 3.0 SR5

                      2. went to vray settings. Enabled GI in Indirect Illu. and in Evnironment. Then I went to material settings of GI to set some HDRi

                      3. I switched to "bitmap" like in video.

                      4. I clicked "open" (or similar button to open picture) and selected (opened) one HDRi picture.

                      5. Then Rhino stucked. I closed it by force over taskmanager.

                      6. Started Rhino again and tried to make the same procedure - I wondered what will happen...

                      7. After some stucks I started to recording video. Everytime is situation same as on video - error messages, nothing really working, rhino freezing

                        ... I miss the texture path. OK, I can paste a texture path to the texture selection dialog, but copy is not possible now.

                        ... that the IOR of the reflection layer is placed at the reflection texture dialog confuse me. Is it right?

                        ... very little bug: the color mapping list could show all modes without scrolling per default.

                          Crash bug help:
                          I have here a file from the previous release. If I open it, than Rhino crash. I have send the file per email to Corey.
                          My experience: It helps to rename the VrayForRhino.rhp and to open the file without Vray. Than, rename back the plugin and load it manual per rhino plugin manager again. A few global settings are set back, but the materials seems to work fine.

                            Something wrong in the mat editor here, I can't read the subdivs value.



                            I agree on the fresnell comment. It doesn't make any sense now. For example I would like to use a checker map to control reflection color, but the reflections should be fresnell with ior 1.5 for example. How is that possible with the current setup?

                            If you choose fresnell as map type for reflection strength, you get reflection and refraction options, which is very confusing since you add this map to a reflection slot...

                            I have the feeling that since the introduction of the layered materials, things are going in the wrong direction, regarding user friendlyness. I skipped intesive testing on some builds, and now I can't follow at all anymore. I guess new users must be completely confused and overwhelmed by the current material interface.

                              I had to take that out because some people could not use the directory control. Its going to stay like this until I can figure something out.

                              Yes the ior for fresnel is in the fresnel texture

                                That wouldn't have been possible before either. I'm sorry if it makes no sense to you, but this is exactly how it was setup before. You were entering these values that were in turn being converted to a map that was placed where it is now. So you will not be able to accomplish this until I finish the "Blend" proc texture. Then you can just apply a blend between a checker and fresnel. But keep in mind, you couldn't do this behavior in any other build either (applying checker and fresnel that is...)

                                The ability to add a refraction value was a hack that Vlado added a while ago to combat the problem you brought up about needing different refraction / fresnel IORs.

                                I'm sorry that I cannot completely duplicate Max's user interface. Instead of telling us we're going in the wrong direction, please give some criticism on how we can allow all the power of VRay materials and textures to be available to our users. Should we take away the freedom of layering as you please and go back to a rigid 3 layer material? Diffuse - Reflection- Refraction and nothing else? I understand its a bit confusing and we don't have enough documentation yet, but that is what this forum is for. I think we do a decent job at trying to answer every question. So please ask or tell us what we can do to make this better for you. Telling us that we're going in the wrong direction isn't enough to help move forward.
