  • ***PLEASE POST ALL V-Ray for Rhino 1.0 BUGS HERE***

For my material tutorial I have try to get a colored architecture glass for single planes - fresnel reflection IOR 1.5 + refraction color and IOR 1.

I have an idea: a problem could be a poor mesh uv coordiantes quality of the RCM tool. A few months befor I have try to create a big low poly mesh box and apply a spherical mapped HDRI (old Maxwell Beta HDRI solution). I have got strong distortions, the polygons cause it. Than I have export the mesh box to the free tool "UV mapper" and have a apply a "spherical" mapping and reimport the mesh box with build in spherical coordinates. It was working.
Today I have tested a box with round edges and RCM spherical mapping. Artefacts. Than I have apply spherical coordiantes per UVmapper and it was much better looking.
So, it's time to talk again about the RCM tool. This problem is very old.

RCM is still under development. I'll express your concerns to them.

        • material mapping of a clone- object

          hello

i`m not sure about this bug(?!), but if i copy an object and change the mapping settings of the original /first object- the changings of mapping applies to the clone, too.

          thank you

I'll also bring that up with the RCM dev team. Thanks

procedural noise bumpmap: should it be working? if so how? No matter what settings I use, I don't see the slightest bump showing on my object. Using a bitmap works however.

only bitmaps work for bumps at this time. No procedural textures will work as bump maps

                  OK. thanks.

BTW: I will look into the crashing scene later again.

Merging lightcache passes and filter lightcache need much time, if I use the render window command instead the standard render command. Maybe this can be improved.

I've heard complaints of this before (the lightcache merging problem) -I don't experiance that on my end. Could you send me a scene that gives you trouble? Also could you remind me of your computer system (processor info mainly )

                      [edit]
Oh, I think I read that wrong initially - are you saying this merging issue only happens when you "RenderWindow" instead of regular "Render"?

Yes, for example take my last sended scene file and use the brass material and render a "window" ...

                        • Can't Reorder Material Layers

I don't know if this is supposed to be doable or not, but if I reorder a layer (put diffuse under diffuse1) and then hit the render button, Rhino crashes. Happens with all scenes.

Changing layer order should not cause a crash. It doesn't on my machines anyway. If you could send me a scene that causes this problem I would apprciate it.

In the past I have wished a material based swap uv option, because I have thought, the aniso "rotate" option does somthing like twist the uv. My test has shown me strange results.
Today i have read the Vray help page and have seen, the rotate options should help to turn a brusheffect. My new test show me: I must set rotate 180? and I get a 90? turned brush effect. Seems to be a bug or?

If rotation is to difficult, a "swap" could be fine. I know this kind of workflow from Rhinman|AIR. It's a luxery wish, a shortcut option. ;o)

I have find the way per RCM tool. Set a map channel at surface (default) and set W rotate 90?.
Yeah - our anisotropy is kinda hacked together right now. It only uses channel 1 of a render mesh with no quick transformations(scale /rotate /etc )available - I suppose it would make sense to have the UVW more customizable as it is for textures. I understand where your going with this now I think.

I'll take a look to see if I'm not sending the values over properly - its possible.
