... the intensity of the lightmaterial can not be changed. If I change the multiplier, the intensity in the rendering is the same.
Yes I just realized that myself. I was previously using a custom Light material, now I'm using the VRay stock one which is slightly differently implemented. I'll have to follow through on this one a bit.
... conection between Rhino material textures and Vray seems to be broken.
Yes I overlooked the Rhino material textures altogether it seems. Sorry
ok- I uninstalled beta 11, installed beta 10.5, made a simple vray render and closed. uninstalled beta 10.5, installed 11, opened said file. rendered, closed- crash. can't open rhino anymore. uninstalled 11 and I can now open rhino (no vray installed).
windows XP pro, rhino 3.0SR4.
I'm thinking that this has something to do with RCM...I've had a similar crash problem on my test machines when the RCM stuff is deleted without removing the proper registry keys. My installer may be to blame for this (and any similar ) problems.
Let me make sure your problem is the one I've previously experianced...When you try to open Rhino3 it just crashes outright before anything is even opened right? If so, then that is probably an RCM-related issue caused by my installer.
I'll have to test this a bit more, I will try to get a fix asap
I think a basic explanation of the new settings is needed:
Why is there a transparancy box in diffuse and refraction, if you already have the refraction color and fog color? What is the filter box in reflection, and why isn't it default white (with black, reflection doesn't work).
Now that you can layer infinite brdfs on top of each other, you need to control the transparency (or strength) of the individual brdfs. The view in the tree control of the material shows EXACTLY the order of the brdfs in the final material. As such, a transparency of black(completely opaque) will cut out all the brdf layers under it.
I can't get refraction to work, or the transparency box in diffuse.
Take a look at the test materials to see how they are made...they are in the pluginfolder/Materials
For refraction to work your diffuse layer cannot have a transparency of black or your refraction layer will be entirely blocked by the diffuse layer. Try just having a refraction layer, or make the diffuse layer have a grey / white transparency.
Wouldn't it be better to put the BG map controls in the environment rollout instead of in the maps properties? You can even put them in both places, but it would be much quicker to adjust rotation if it were visible all the time. (it seems you can render with the map box still open, but then changes don't have an effect).
We thought it was more concise to have it all in one place. We had HDR previews but there was some strange memory issue with some of the HDRs that choked out our test machines. Eventually HDR's will be visible in the preview state, I just need to speak with Vlado about a problem we've had, that we also noticed in the Max version of VRay.
How is the relationship between background color, multiplier, map and map multiplier? Why is map multiplier default at 0.5 instead of 1.0?
Its just 0.5 because in most of the other spots that would mean an even blend of the color and texture properties. For the environment page it should probably be set to 1.0 I'll change that.
A mirror ball environment hdri shows up upside down by default in the render (other formats also show up wrong). I can't get it right with the flipping options, but I can get it to work if I use a 180? vertical rotation.
Yes, previously we always had a stock rotation of 180. Now that we don't, you will see that flip. I'll check my matrix math to see why the flipping isn't working as expected.
If I use horizontal rotation, it goes upside down again... Mmmm, it seems that horizontal and vertical got mixed up Something definatly is wrong with the default position and the rotation controls!
Yep, I'll double check that.
I can't load the asgvis materials that are installed with vrayforrhino.
You can't load any of them? I had no problems on my test machines...which one's in particular can you not load?
I get an instanteneous crash with Rhino. Just a new session (no scene).
EDIT: Second try ...
Uninstalled Vray,
opened Rhino and set Treefrog as default,
exit,
install beta11,
open Rhino and set to Vray,
close rhino --> crash
(Windows 2k)
read the response I posted to craiggorton. I don't know why it would crash when you exit Rhino, but Corey has told me that you have issues where Rhino won't even open for you, and I think that may be the same issue craig is having.
RGB and Alpha Channel is always in the VFB. Any additional channels must be selected from our options under "VFB Channels".
... very much I miss the paths of textures, because I use an image browser for selection of texures. On this way I get a better overview about the potential textures. In the past I have copy the path from the image browser to the texture option. I feel, the fix placed file explorer in the texture dialog dosn't bring advantages for the workflow.
I was under the impression that everyone wanted a real-time view of the textures available to them. Since you use an image browser, why don't you just explain what makes that image browser better than what we have right now so I can just make our texture browser better?
The first crash happens when exiting Rhino. After that, you crash as soon as you open.
I think RCM is the culprit, especially since it said "RCM crash dump has been created." Just before it crashes it mentions something about "Brazil, even though Brazil may not be installed." I don't have it installed.

Thanks,

RCM forms a crash dump as long as it is loaded and a crash happens. It isn't necessarily them. I think it might be Brazil (or perhaps another renderer that also uses RCM? ) and me fighting over registry keys...I don't have Brazil on my test machines, I'm getting it now to test my theory.

Hi Joe,
here a screenshot of XnView, a free image browser, also useful for *.hdr images. You see, the user get a full overview. For example if I like to use a red dark wood texture, than I go to my wood texture dir and ... per Ctrl-C I can copy the path to Rhino (Vray). I don't think, you can build in an image browser.
Often I copy images pathes from one place to an other. For example I would copy the file path of the GI env to the reflection env.
If you like to stay at this interface, please add a line with the path of the used texture. So the user could use the copy and paste method too.
I don't have the crash problem, but I use a SR5 test version.
