It's a early bug - No 005 - at my list. Joe, I hope you look at my collection list from time to time and don't forget one.

    http://www.asgvis.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=447
Yes I'm aware of it. Currently I'm primarily working on getting all of the core features in before I focus completely on bug hunting. That particular one has been resolved by Vlado and is fixed in the most recent VRay Sdk which we will be linking to in our next release

    [edit]
To clear that up, I'm referring to the initial flip of the images by default

      • Materials - where are they?

Hey all. I have been down for a bit - injury (Check out the images! http://www.haughtdog.com/broken_leg/mri_spinner.html). Anyway, I haven't touched V-Ray since December, but I am back up an running. I used Vlado's "universal" settings to get myself up to speed, but now I am having issues with materials, some described by Andy.

        1. The edit button is greyed out. I don't have SR5, but it seems with Andy this didn't fix the problem.

        2. The materials list when I click browse is a bunch of Defaults, and I check each one. None are used in my scene. But the scene renders fine. How can I find the materials?

        3. How can I access the vismats, just in general?

        Thanks,
        Garrett

        • material names lost when a file is saved and opened

Hello. Not sure if this has been addressed, but when I create my materials they all have unique names, and it works great for that session. But when I save, close, and open the same file later, all the names are gone when I try to 'Browse', and they've been replaced with DefaultMaterialXX.

Also, when I load a material from the library, the name does not import, and I end up renaming the things manually.

          Thanks.

Yeah, I believe the naming issue was pointed out in the first page of this thread. Sorry about that

Try the SR5 release candidate to ensure it doesn't fix your problem. It should.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this. The materials listed in the "Browse" box are all the material names of vray materials in your scene. When you create a material it is given a default name. So I'm guessing you just aren't ever changing this default name if you just see a bunch of default names.

              3. How can I access the vismats, just in general?
In the material layer edit control right click on the material name and you will get a pop up menu that has many options. Currently there is an issue when trying to save the materials out, but reading them in is as simple as choosing the Load From File option and navigating to the vismat's location

              [edit]
Since you haven't been around since December it may be possible that some of the issues you are having with the Browse box is because of how the old material defintions you have are being read in. Let me know if you are still having issues with "phantom" materials populating your Browse box.

              • Materials - Browse

                Hey Joe,

For my second question, the issue I am having is that when I close a Rhino file and re-open it the materials are gone. The scene renders fine - all materials look correct and the texture maps are in place, but when I browse the materials (in the object properties or the layer properties) the ones listed are all DefaultXX's. I checked each of them and they are not the onse in the scene, but rather duplicates of a "glass" I was playing around with.

I searched for a vismat file for that scene, but can't find it. I am able to pull materials from the default vismats, but I cannot save vismats, as described in an earlier post.

This may be silly, but how can I get SR5? We have SR4 in our office. Would you recommend updating all of our machines, or just the one renderer?

As far as rendering back in December, I am on a different machine now so this is this machine's first taste of V-Ray.

                Thanks,
                Garrett

                • **** PLEASE POST ALL BETA 12 or 12.1 PROBLEMS HERE *****

                  Joe-

The problem is even though I rename the shaders when I create them, when the file is opened later, say the next day, all of the materials that I was able to browse before now show up as defaultMaterialXX.

For example, if I am working on a scene, and I have Glass, floor, and wood all as materials in my scene, then I close the file, do something else, and reload the file, all I get in the browse list is DefaultMaterial01, DefaultMaterial02, and DefaultMaterial03.

Even worse, it seems that I get multiple instances of the shaders, so a file that has only 3 or 4 materials assigned ends up having many many more deault materials in the list. Perhaps this is each instance that a material is used in the scane, maybe for each object or surface to which a material is applied?

Small hint: if somebody try to unassign the vray material of an object and want to use the rhino material only, than it helps to set the material to "layer" first and than to "basic". So the "plugin" material conection is reseted.

Ok, well the materials flat out disappearing should be fixed by SR5. The default material thing I am not sure about, technically, the only way to have materials show up in the browse list is to have them loaded from the file or created. So maybe there are just some old materials in the file that are not being used, I'm not sure.[/quote]

Yes, the inability to save properly is on one of the first pages of this thread. That will be fixed as soon as I get this next release out, sorry for the inconveniance.

You can get SR5 release candidate two from http://download.mcneel.com/whatsnew.asp?rel=92

Since this is not a final release, I would recommend trying it only on the machine that uses VRay for Rhino until you are confident it is causing you no issues. To my knowledge, no one has had any problems using this so far.

Yes this naming problem has been brought to my attention previously in this thread somewhere. I think I have already addressed it in my build. I'm really trying to get a new build out to you guys in the next couple days, so please bare with me.

Even worse, it seems that I get multiple instances of the shaders, so a file that has only 3 or 4 materials assigned ends up having many many more deault materials in the list. Interesting...I hadn't noticed this behavior, but I will double-check my build. Technically, if you instance a material 100 times, there should be only 1 material in the browse list. However, if you copy a material 100 times, you will have 100 materials in there. But if you are seeing this problem, I tend to believe you over my memory

No. And I'm not keen on restructuring my network for this. You should follow the Windows convention for file dialogs.
