This is also posted in the 'wishlist' section but,

Thanks joeb - just a suggestion but we should try to stick to a naming system??? I've done this before and it can get into a mess very quickly!!!!!

As a starter, and building on the standard ones, how about:

    material colour_material finish.vismat

    eg

    In plastics

    grey_dark_vgloss
    grey_midblue_lightspark
    grey_midblue_heavyspark
    yellow_bright_matt

    In metals

    aluminium_greydark_lightspark
    aluminium_bluehint_highgloss

    etc

Just a thought - what do people think???

For those who don't know (and speaking very basicly) a 'spark finish' is a simple uniform texture found on most plastic components

Yeah - it seems our ftp system doesn't allow anonymous write access to our pub folder...strange...ok we'll have to let people upload somewhere else. I'll switch some stuff around

        [edit]
See the changes in my original post for info on the changes

        [edit2]
Corey has made a nice interface to wrap the uploading / downloading of materials and options

          hej
I?m not shure that worked for me...
I have just uploaded a vismat material there, but I don?t think the textures are missing. Do I have to create a zip file with my material and all textures and bumps and upload this?

Yes, a zip file is best.

                      http://www.vray-materials.de/

                      Hi all,

has anyone had success with converting / importing / or using the ample resources (materials) available to the 3d Studio Max community?

in particular there is a great wealth of sharing, and some kick ass materials, available (to max users) on http://www.vray-materials.de/

obviously, if you had Max, you could load up these materials and then hand copy the presets into a new material you created inside vray for rhino.

however, ....there must be a simpler way! or way to translate the info directly into vray/rhino. perhaps we need a plugin made, or import tool.

add it to the wish list.

                      or, ...am I missing something?
                      and it can be done?

                      cheers,
                      Paul

We are working on a converter - however, it has been on the backburner a bit lately. We'll let everyone know as soon as its available.

                          Hi Joe,

                          thanks for your quick response.

any chance you put a date to when this may happen?

                          cheers,

I would hope by the end of February we'll have a V-Ray for 3dsmax -> vismat converter in one shape or another.

                              That is awesome news!
As someone just starting out with vray, I know how infuriating it can be trying to nut out how to make your own version of a material when there are .mat versions available all over the place.

                              Looking forward to this tool.
