hi there,

I also visited http://www.vray-materials.de/ and I wondered if one could use this great collection of materials for V-Ray for Rhino too. Apparently not, so I like the idea of setting up a converter very much and I am looking forward to get this tool.
Sharing our own created materials would be great but I think I have to get more in use with the material-editor before I´ll be able to share some mats.

I am very very excited to have the converter implemented to download and analyse existing shader. End of February, sweet, it's in few days.... ;D

the bump map and the diffuse map are missing.

Progress on the material converter is looking good it should be done by the end of this month. It has been taking awhile because originally I was the only one working on it and I was also getting the site up and running. But now we have someone working solely on the converter and he is progressing nicely so hopefully by the end of this month it will be released.

We may also release some materials with it as we would have used them to test it. Don't hold me to that though.

if you think about releasing new predefined materials:
translucent and milky ones in different opacities/translucencies would be nice. when you have one fixed color it's somewhat difficult to change only the "thickness" or the light going through from behind... would like to see how the pros simulate this
what about a new texture type in the texture editor to simulate scratches for brushed steel or aluminium?

Last I looked at it it was pretty much good to go. I think he needs another couple days to iron out a couple bugs. But his converted materials will have to wait for the next beta anyway since we've tracked down some bugs with my vismat files in the process.

Yep - I think we'll be releasing it in unison with VfR4 / VfR3 SR1. It uses the latest vismat format so it won't work with the pre-SR1 stuff. Thats why its not released already.

We should be announcing a concrete date soon. We're having a big meeting today to hash out where we are at and what needs to get done.
