I found the solution for those of you who are using vray for sketchup on a Mac and are unable to use the material preview button without crashing Sketchup.

Well, at least if you are still using leopard, rather than snow leopard.

I trust that this is hint enough. My understanding is that there is an improved OpenGL support on the latest Mac OS system.

We don't use OpenGL at all, so I have my doubts that it would effect our plugin at all.

Having the same problem with the material editor on my Mac.
Vray will crash when I try to use the material editor.
I'm on the 30-day trial...any way to extend that trial period once
the bug is fixed?

Yes, you can have your demo period renewed if you were unable to properly trial the software do to the current bugs in this release. We actually cleared our database out so everyone could demo the product again when we released this latest patch 1.48.83. We plan on wiping the database again with our next release too.

Hi - I have the problem that the VRay material editor causes Sketchup to crash whenever I try and preview a material within the editor that has a displacement map.

Example: Grass Disp 1.vismat, downloaded directly from the asgvis materials gallery site

I open sketchup, then material editor, everything is fine. (I actually have to add the diffuse map, as it seems the material wasn't made correctly, but this is a minor thing) I un-check the displacement map and hit preview. The sphere previews fine. When I check the "Displacement" tick box and hit preview, Sketchup crashes.

This seems to be the case with any material I've tried with a displacement map. Even materials that have no displacement: if I tick the displacement box (even without assigning any displacement map), it crashes if I try to preview it.

So it seems ticking the displacement box always causes VRay to crash Sketchup in any situation, map or not. Seems a pretty clear bug case to me....

Please keep up the great work with VRay! Other than this bug I'm loving using and demo-ing it...

Displacement Previews haven't worked since 1.05.30. This is a known issue, and has been around since the late stages of beta testing. Couldn't be tracked down, couldn't see what was causing the issue, still can't find it. It's very weird how one day it just stopped working and it never was able to work again.

So until this is fixed, don't preview materials that have displacement. If you do, you'll never see anything appear in the preview window, and the product will stall out. You can cancel the preview render by selecting a different material in the material editor. Switching materials cancels preview renders.

I have the same problem with the trial version 1.48.66 with sketchup 7.0.10938. I use osx 10.4.11, processor 2x2.66 Ghz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, Memoria 3 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 FB-DIMM.
Material editor crashes when i try to use the preview botton, and when i try to change lenses (from "m" to another).

I wish to buy the program, but i have to be shure that we will find the bug.

The latest version is 1.48.83, has everyone that has experienced this crash tried that version? I see that FELLANAMEDLIME has no issues with the material editor rendering previews, unless you use displacement on a material and try to preview it (this is a known issue). Anyone else that has experienced issues with previewing materials in the material editor, please upgrade to 1.48.83 here
