I tried to use the Vismat converter with 3DS Max Design 2009, but apparently the converter is not compatible with this edition of Max. I am really disappointed I cannot convert my collection of Max materials. Oh well, hopefully you guys can continue making them.

Hi guys!
One question...
I need a surface that looks like a net so that I can see trough!
so something like a mesh.
I'm nont going to draw the net in 3d of course, that would be just a surface.
But about the material.
What is the best way that yu recomand?
Find a bmp net and then create the alpha channel?
Do you know exactly the way I should do?
or maybe would you do it in another way?

I would start with a jpg or png mesh image (sketchup has some in the material editor fencing section).
From that, using PS, make an alpha map (a greyscale image) so that the transparent areas are white and the solid areas black. While you are at it, depending on how fussy you are (!) you can take the alpha map and make a seperate bump map by bluring the alpha map - so it softens the edges, this will give a rounded effect to the finished mesh render.
You put the alpha map in the vray material editor 'transparency' slot for that material, and the bump map in the bump map slot.

Hi david!
I've notice one think...this feature with transparency doesn't work if I import the material from sketchup, then export the map from the sketchup material, then get the alpha channel from PS and so on like you sayd.
If instead I create a new material in vray and work everything from there it works.
Do you think it gets more problem when one import the material directly from the sletchup material library?

I'm using SR1 which creates vray material automatically - so this must be the difference between the different versions. Anyway, I'm glad you figured it out.

Make a Reflection layer, next to reflection hit the 'M', under type change it from frensel to none.
