Major User-Facing improvement

  • Added support for beta version of AI material generator. The generator can be found in Cosmos.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed issue where materials with textures plugged into roughness or IOR slots could be exported incorrectly into Vantage.
  • Fixed issue where firefly filter could create NaNs.
  • Fixed issue where outline was rendered incorrectly when using Camera with non-zero physical size.
  • Fixed slow uninstall stage of installer.

Major User-Facing Improvements

  • Added possibility to render Gaussian splats using Corona Gaussian splats object.
  • CoronaPhysicalMtl rewritten to Qt.
  • CIE rewritten to Qt.
  • Added the option to dock VFB window. Dockable option can be found in zoom menu of VFB.
  • Added new Fabric material - users can control yarns, plies, fibers.

User-Facing Improvements

  • VFB - Removed confirmation dialog when enabling/disabling all lightmix layers.
  • Removed decimals from the (new) White Balance operator.
  • Improved viewport IR text during Vantage Live link.
  • Added new togglable “Collaboration” button to VFB ribbon, which shows/hides Collaboration on the left side, instead of a tab in the sidebar.
  • Added option to hide/disable AI features using CHAOS_DISABLE_GEN_AI environment variable. Setting it to “1” hides:
    • AI Material Generator from Cosmos
    • CMasking_AiEnhancer render element
    • Enhance button in VFB
    • Enhance button for VFB history items
  • Added new “Flip” toggle to the VFB’s Zoom menu, which flips currently shown image horizontally - shortcut ctrl + /.
  • Extended VFB title placeholder parameters with %cxr - this shows the path to the currently viewed cxr (VFB system settings).
  • Added option for CShading_Alpha render element to include bloom & glare effect.
  • Added checkbox for Corona proxy to play animation with FPS stored in the proxy file (previous behavior - default) or with the current scene FPS (similar to V-Ray proxy).
  • Changed default adaptivity interval to 1. Noise level can now be estimated after 2nd pass.
  • Significantly improved parsing speed, especially on CPUs with large number of threads. Geometry stage now stays consistent between renders.
  • Added support for randomization by pattern to Multimap and MappingRandomizer.
  • Improved the look of VFB2 tabs.
  • Rewritten the UI of ColorText to Qt.
  • Maps are reused and no longer duplicated when importing material from Cosmos.
  • Significantly improved volume rendering when volume is lit by polygonal light sources (no environment, sun).
  • Added automatic color space selection using OCIO rules when batch loading bitmaps from Corona MultiMap.
  • Added possibility to drag and drop multiple selected Cosmos materials into SME. The drop position of all imports even without drag and drop has slight shift applied to it.
  • Added upload conditions to the AI Enhancer button tooltip.
  • When LightMix element is displayed in VFB, it is uploaded to AI Enhancer instead of Beauty.
  • Added checkbox with simple triplanar mapping into CoronaBitmap.
  • Improved the import of materials from Cosmos: - Corrected the ordering of NormalTexture/MappingRandomizer/Bitmap
    • Fixed 0 scaling used in triplanar texture in AI material
    • Removed empty CoronaMix map plugged into SSS amount
    • Triplanar, MappingRandomizer map is reused if the same map is plugged into multiple nodes
  • Made UI more compact:
    • top toolbar’s height decreased from 56px to 40px (VFB1 had 28px)
    • tools sidebar’s width decreased from 342px to 300px (VFB1 had 240px)

Bugfixes

  • Fixed AI Enhancer image uploading cropped image when AI upscaling is on - now the whole image is uploaded in the original resolution.
  • Fixed artifacts created by slicer caps.
  • Fixed issue where IR would not update when an object with Corona Pattern modifier used option to use pattern material.
  • Fixed CoronaPatternMod incorrectly setting command mode to select (e.g. when cloning using Shift + Move).
  • Fixed issue where 3ds would get minimized after closing Corona Color Picker, Memory report dialog etc.
  • Fixed issue where Corona Pattern Mod could crash when using RaySwitch material or Light material on it.
  • Fixed “Rest” parameter in LightMix being reset when restarting rendering.
  • Fixed issue with wrong gamma mapping when importing normal map from Cosmos from Corona material library collection.
  • Fixed issue where triplanar mapping in Corona Scanned Material could rarely lead to NAN.
  • Fixed outline material when used with camera clipping.

  • Added the color correction options and tonemapping exclusion to Gaussian splats.
  • Added better flip frame options and crop box to Corona Gaussian splats.
  • FabricMtl - added option for normal/bump maps on top of the fabric mtl.
  • FabricMtl - Updated tooltip for distortion frequency and fibers frequency, to be less confusing.
  • Added non-physical control of reflection and refraction tint into Physical material.
    This helps to better convert V-Ray materials and import from Cosmos.
    These controls are hidden by default, located in material’s advanced settings.
  • ToonMtl - added shadow control & GI suppression.
  • Added option to invert the slicing to the Corona Slicer material.
  • Further improved volume sampling.
  • Added support for MultiTexture Map in Corona for Vantage.
  • Corona now automatically fixes NaNs/INFs found in geometry and reports them to users. This also avoids NaN related crashes.
  • VFB: - Moved Sidebar visibility button + Zoom dropdown to the right of the main toolbar.
    • Added option to VFB store images in half-resolution.
    • Updated icons, moved main tool buttons to left, added foldable icon labels.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed issue where accepting some confirmation dialogs could minimize 3ds Max.
  • Fixed freeze when changing post/lightmix settings.
  • Fixed inconsistent color space when doing conversion Bitmap ↔ CoronaBitmap where CoronaBitmap. Same color space as original bitmap is used now.
  • Fixed crash when converting Bitmap that is plugged into MultiMap.
  • Fixed issue where Gaussian splats could be rendered with unexpected hue shift.
  • Fixed issue where Corona Bitmaps No tiling mode did not work with Triplanar.
  • Added units to triplanar scale in CoronaBitmap.
  • Warning about legacy atmospheric elements now doesn’t appear when editing materials.
  • Fixed disabled instance randomization mode for MappingRandomizers imported from Cosmos.
  • Fixed NVIDIA denoiser not working during production rendering.

    • Copying gaussian splats objects creates a broken copy
    • Curves can’t be turned off/on without opening the curves editor

  • Fixed unwanted minimization of parent application (CIE or 3dsMax) when open file dialog is confirmed/closed.

  • VFB2 - Chaos Collaboration is now open in a separate dialog.
  • VFB2 - Renamed Collab → Collaboration, Enhance → AI Enhancer, made rounded edges on button highlights, increased button area size.
  • Moved moon glow parameter from sky map to moon.
  • Moon intensity multiplier split into two (visual and illumination) multipliers.
  • Daylight node for the moon can be selected in a viewport.
  • All scene cameras are now exported into Vantage.
  • Added new Defaults (reset) menu in Render Settings > System tab, moved “save defaults” into system tab.
  • Rewritten the UI of Corona Bitmap to Qt.
  • Scatter: - Ability to compute collisions between individual scatters: - Each scatter can be assigned to one collision avoidance group in the Scatter Lister.
    • Scatters in the same group don’t have collisions among themselves.
    • Collision evaluation is done based on priority - his priority can be also assigned in the Scatter Lister.
    • Object and spline lists allow adjustment of related properties in bulk when multiple items are selected.
    • Added addModelNode() command which can be used within scripts to add a model.
    • Added support for mesh objects as include/exclude modifiers.

Bugfixes

  • Fixed issue where outline disappears behind transparent object without outlines.
  • Moon brightness made independent of its size.
  • Sun and Moon are now always rendered behind clouds, regardless of cloud shadowing state.
  • Fixed crash when color mapping callback is called before VFB is created - or after it is destroyed.
  • Corona Image Editor: - Fix of slow startup.
    • Added missing UI update of progress bar during denoising.
    • Fixed not denoising an image due to wrong spp (samples per pixel) buffer.
    • Fixed proper cancelling of denoising when any other denoising mode is selected.
    • Store persistent settings of VFB for CIE in %localappdata%\CoronaRenderer\ImageEditor, instead of with binary.
  • Added UVMapper rotation parsing to VrMatConverter. Now W rotation is considered when importing from cosmos.
  • Fixed issue where stars would be seemingly bigger in reflection/refraction.
  • Normal map Red-Green flip is now imported correctly from Cosmos.
  • Added missing context (right-click) menu for the Daylight node in CoronaMoon.
  • Fixed inconsistency (not greying out) between bloom&glare and sharpen&blur when using camera postprocessing overrides.
  • Fixed exposure being incorrect when loading CXR in CIE (in history or opening).
  • Fixed issue where the Gaussians bounding box would get bigger than the crop box with increasing zoom level in the viewport.
  • Scatter: - Fixed parent window focus loss when picking colors for instance models with the Corona Color Picker.
    • Fixed issues with incorrect surface scattering on renderable and non-renderable shapes/splines.

Regression bugfixes

  • Fix of not stopping IR when closing dockable wrapper.
  • Fixing error estimate being zero in IR for first several passes when “IR subsampling” is used.
  • Spinboxes with world units now update on display units change.

User-Facing Improvements

  • Switched default preview mode of gaussian splats to point cloud.
  • Crop box of Gaussian splats is being shown and used instead of full bounding box for rotation, zoom extents etc.
  • Added “Fit crop box” button to Gaussian splat object, which automatically culls low opacity splats (performed by default).
  • Added (non-linear) sRGB color space option to Gaussian splats.

Bugfixes

  • Made VFB docking/undocking faster.
  • Fixed artifacts in Gaussian splats visible on geometry with shadow catcher material.
  • Removed duplicate stars, fixed moon disk size and gamma, removed fireflies from moon illumination, optimized star rendering and moon preprocessing.
  • Corona Image Editor: all settings now reset when Erase button is click.
  • Corona Image Editor - Fix of not visible changes after denoising mode is changed.
  • Fixed incorrect visibility of the sun/moon through clouds.
  • Fixed toolbar labels visibility when resizing docked VFB.
  • Fixed crash when sampling Anima materials.
  • Fix for Cosmos imports that use grayscale bitmaps and inverse in the output of a bitmap.
