I’m noticing in the 2.7 version of Enscape that the cut out feature doesn’t allow for 100% opacity in a cut out material. This leaves the material slightly transparent and kills the look of fencing or perforated metal. Is this a common thing, or am I just daft?

Hi @Archytextural_1
just remove the checkmark for Transparency. Transparent materials only allow an opacity value up to 95%.
UPDATE: Bloody Brilliant! SO don’t check the transparency, and only put the texture map in. Thanks!
So you’re saying just put the black and white cut out map in the texture slot and uncheck the transparent box?
another problem is the reflection is not accurate. It’s just a black box.
Sorry it’s difficult for me to say exactly what’s going on here based on the screenshot. However some notes on reflections in general:
-
For Sketchup in particular we can only take the front face material into account
-
There’s limited resolution for textures visible in reflections (therefore delicate detail like the cutout texture here might get lost)
-
Especially high detailed geometry might not always be visible in reflections, please see explanation here: Why are some of my objects/parts of my project not displayed in reflections?
-
So all in all: please consider Enscape is still a real-time renderer, therefore you can’t expect reflection quality to be on a level with offline path tracers
