Thought I’d share my first attempt at 3ds max a V-Ray with you all for comments, Its pretty tame in comparison to the rest of the work displayed but hey ho gotta start somewhere!
Its a table made of mirrored Acrylic for the base, abs plastic edging round the top and plastic slate effect vinyl on top with reverse painted glass bolted down with stainless steel.
Ah apologies, I’ve fixed that now. I was considering trying to add a HDRI? to the environment so that the mirrored acrylic had something to reflect… thoughts?
What are your glass settings? I think they could use some improvement. Don’t forget to check “Reflect on backside” in the material options, that usually adds a lot of realism to glass.
The edge of your glass has improved. I’m not sure what you’re after? A perfectly clean render? I would enhance the glass model a little bit by slightly chamfering the edges so you get the specular and reflection off even corners. Adding a subtle bump, because no glass is perfect. Tinting it maybe a tiny bit, adding a glossiness map for finger prints.
Perfectly sharp refractions = glossiness of 1. lower numbers with make reflections/refractions more blurred.
Generally you should provide something to be reflected in the glass. 4 ‘visible’ vray lights above your mode or an HDRI map in your env reflection slot will work well.
MoonDoggie mentioned chamfers - these are a prerequisite for decent renderings as nothing in reallife has a perfect corner.
