GM superbowl spot

robot in about 7 or 8 shots was done in Vray (some shots of it on the bridge, falling, and leaving the factory) as well as the water in the bridge shots accept for the impact shot, that was live. Vray played very well in HD

Awwww! I feel really bad for the robot

yeah, great animation!

that robot sure looks alive - in fact it looks a lot like my dog when something has gone wrong

Saw that commercial and wondered who did the shots of the robot. Really cool to see that VRay was used for it. The compositing was flawless!

cool, I saw it in HD , looked great. poor little robot.

I really liked a couple of the coke commercials too.

How did u do the lighting for the model to match so well with the background?
Did u shoot HDR imagery or reflection plates? Did u match the lighting by eye and finish the final comp in post by cc it?

Excellent work!

the splash in the water was real, as well as the robot in that shot.

For the lighting, yes we did take HDRs at the locations, but for most of the night shots I ended up lighting more traditionally, with a few lights. The compositors also worked with a few light passes as well, to match the contrast and such of the real robot on the bridge.

Fantastic job! You can read the robot’s emotion even without any expressions - great animation… and rendering too…

Rob.

I have seen your reel at sway and it’s amazing. Are u using craft director tools? Camera moves and render quality are stunning!

great job. that was probably my favorite commercial of the superbowl.

not quite sure what that is, we are using the standard max camera, and now the Vray physical camera. We do add a bit of shake and things to our camera moves, to take some of the CG edge off of them. We have a few guys who work on camera moves during the previs stages, myself included (we play double or triple rolls quite often)

Yeah, really nice. I missed the first 10 seconds of this the first time but by the end of it I could really “get” that he was let go from GM for some reason. Well directed and well executed all around.

was the robot done completely in modo?

I think it was modeled in lightwave, I could be wrong though. I jumped on the project only for the lighting and rendering, I was on a different project for the rest of the time.

come on buck, we NEED an HD version…

I can answer that since I work Daniel at Sway now…

We have three tools for the camera moves. Amazing previz directors, awesome art directors, and incredible artists.

We also have an amazing proprietary car simulator, which IMHO is far superior from the one that craft offers.

Yeah you guys have a really high standard of work - Good to see you keeping in touch with max and vray.

Link is dead for me

Best regards,
nikki Candelero

That’s unbeatable!

We recently purchased 4Wheeler extended from craft animations, and it´s pretty good, not too pricey and fairly stable. The ability to follow a spline is a nice addition too since u can have a nice animation just in minutes. After using Reelmotion some years ago, and trying vehicle simulator with no success, i can say im pretty happy with the craft one. I would love to have some inhouse apps too, but man, only a few can afford that!
Has your vehicle simulator been named? Any plan to go mainstream in the future?

And one other thing you forgot, the occasional donuts and croissants!

not quite sure we can talk about it to much.
