Light Study and Gamma

Hey everyone, I’ve been inspired by the images found on maxwell forum a while ago, a person rendering a photorealistic interrior. So I have desided to try same thing. The interrior has been posted on cgtalk and is a free model, courtesy of bryan howard.

Sunlight

Flash

And the maxwell version (rendered by some one on maxwell forum)

very nice!!! I think yours look better  What technique did you use?

//Daniel

just pure gamma 2.2 setup, dome light, qmc/lc.

That is awesome Morbid! I agree, yours looks better than the Maxwell one.

great stuff morbid…the maxwell one has an odd green tint to it…i like your warmish sun a lot better! thumbs up!

Thorsten

Great result, I have already seen them on the two forums but yours are very good.
And yes yours is more warm.
are they QMC first and Lightcache second?

Damn those are great. Can I interest you in a Arch Viz job in So. Cal?

V-Ray rules!

priad read above, yes qmc/lc, however I used dome light do get primary illumination and presicion in shadows, which is very time heavy to get with qmc, then qmc did the second bounce and lc did the rest

Eric -
Im afraid the render times are not archviz compliant

Also, a big part of this scene is maxwell to vray shader. I have done an indepth study (with help from vlado) of maxwell’s plastic and maxwell’s metal shader and have reproduced it in vray. The result, well you can see for your self

then qmc did the second bounce and lc did the rest

Ok Dmitry but see above

morbid, these are great!
I would love to know more about the maxwell to vray material process.

well there is nothing mega scientific about it, but thouse of you who would like to have a look at the shader, send me a pm

It’s much better than the maxwell one - it could use a little bit of sharpness but it’s excellent nevertheless.

I agree about sharpness… as in maxwell there is not filtering, so image can come out very crisp. I used quadratic filter. I suppose mitchel could do the trick.

nice, the vray ones are loads better looking…

Any info on the rendertimes? How many minutes did VRay render and how many days maxwell?

Dieter

render times…
well for flash render it was 5 min on dr, but that would be 50 min on single node
as to gi one, its qmc/lc with dome light at 100 subdivisions for noisless shadow, so it was 10 hours on dr, do the math your selves :stuck_out_tongue:
however maxwell one wasnt any better. Maxwell has rendered similar image in 40 hours and it looked like it needed another 60 so…here you go

Hmm,

if I’m doing the math right the image rendered 100 h in Vray?

indeed  this is however is equivalent to ppt…so such result is not a surprise. However a part of the slow down in my first plastic - 1 shader which was made of 3 shellacs a big nono…I think if i translate this scene into normal vray mat which is plastic - 2 in my lib, then it will be a ton faster.
