"No suitable GPU device found!" on dual RTX2080 config...

Upon running Vantage i get this error:
“No suitable GPU device found! A DXR-compatible device is required.”

See attached picture.
As you can see the system has 2 RTX 2080 cards.
I’m using latest nvidia game drivers (Dec 8 2020) and Windows version 1803.

Any ideas how to fix this ?

Thanks,
Greg

Could you share the file %APPDATA%\Chaos Group\Vantage\debug_log.txt please?
Is there anything unusual in your setup, like virtual machine, remote desktop, etc?

Here’s the log:

Chaos Vantage v1.0.0 (build 857539, hash 049e19ff)
Build date: 2020.12.02
Window initialized in 1007.1 ms
NVIDIA driver version 8.17.14.5751 detected.
Driver check: OK

Windows version is 10.0.17134.

Device #1: Microsoft Basic Render Driver, 0 MB (DevId=0x8C, SubSysId=0x0)
Can’t use device #0 - no raytracing support (0x80070057). Skipping.
No suitable GPU device found! A DXR-compatible device is required.

No virtual machine, nor remote desktop.
The only “exotic” thing about this computer is that it is under heavy firewall security by our IT, but so far i had no problems with any other 3d app or plugin.

Thanks,
Greg

Weird thing that it detects the 2nd card as “Microsoft Basic Render Driver”…
Hmm…

Edit: Maybe i should disable the SLI nVlink perhaps? I doubt its doing anything with these low end cards.

Nope, disabling SLI and restarting, didn’t do jack.
I’m getting the same error..

Ah, yes, I should have noticed in the first post. You stated yourself the Windows version is 1803 (log: “Windows version is 10.0.17134.”). The minimum requirement is 1809 (build 17763) -- this is when DXR was added to Windows.

BTW, the device is listed once in the log because in the DirectX world this is considered one “device” with two “nodes”.

We’ve discussed this in other threads - NVLink improves the maximum possible framerate when using two devices because it avoids the slower PCI-e bus between them and they need to transfer rendered pixels on every frame. However it does not double the effective memory available for the scene. This is subject to future research and development…

Right…

I was afraid it had to do something with the Windows version.
Nothing i can do about that; i’m in the mercy of the IT to deploy the newer version, but this may take 6 months or more.
Things are pretty slow on big corporations when it comes to operating system updates.

Thanks anyway,
Greg

Hello to all, it is similar problem with Nvidia V100, where Vantage took both cards as Microsoft Display.

This is log>

OS is Windows Server 2019 ver 1809

Do you please any tip how to fix it, please ?

Vantage requires an Nvidia RTX GPU. This V100 is an older generation GPU.

Thank you, I see Volta is not able to get in WDDM mode. How many GPUs is possble to use in Vantage, please ? I tested it with 8x2080Ti but in bottom right corner of Vantage window was sign 2xGPU.

Vantage is currently limited to 2 GPUs. This is mainly because the bus interface between the cards becomes a bottleneck and doesn’t scale well.

Hi I’m using Nvidia Geforece GTX 1650
and when ever I’m trying to launch the Vantage It’s showing “No suitable GPU found! A DXR compatible device is required.”
pls help

I think nVidia never enabled the DXR API for the GTX 1650 because of its low performance.
You can read more about which GPUs have DXR support here : NVIDIA Extends DirectX Raytracing (DXR) Support to Many GeForce GTX GPUs | TechPowerUp

Hm, actually, that article I linked was before the 1650 was released.
It’s hard to find info whether DXR is enabled on the 1650 or not.
In any case, it lacks the RT cores, so performance will be very bad and we don’t “officially” support it (even though Vantage would run on it, if DXR is available).

Ok! Thanks for the information.
