Hi,
I will have in the next day to texture and render this scene.
As you can see, there is quite a lot of the light from Micha Interior Scene.
Also for the big hanging light, I will just do an emitter light.
There is also a lot of chairs and upcoming table with curtain on it.
4 rectangular lights coming from the 4 doors.

I must try to mesh correctly the chairs using cheap settings (which one ?) for the back chair and good setting for the front one (which one) ?

Is it too much lights ?
how many time do you think it will need to render a 2200x1600 ?

Micha do I need to change some settings of the visopt and technique from your interior scene because mine is bigger ?

Ohh, looks like long render times. Try to keep it simple. I think, there are no walls in the near of “my” spots, so you try to avoid the small arealights. If the rendertimes are to long, try emitter disks only.

Use the Light cache for glossy rays.

Rendertimes: 12 hours at a dual core or longer. :?

If you want the end result to be photoreal, make sure you move the chairs a bit out of line from eachother. Just small movements/rotations will do.

As for the mesh settings, you can get away with the smallest mesh for all the walls of course by using the mesh tool and use the simple mode, dragging the slider all the way to the left.

What I use mostly for meshing is the max. dist. edge to srf, and leave the other fields blank. You can test your settings by using emap on a chair and press adjust mesh, there you have your preview and you can more easily see the resulting shaded mesh.

Hi,
even with a resolution of 600x220, without the chairs, and everything in basic grey, I’m going a lot on virtual memory. :S
Maybe I must remove the dome light and keep the emitter discs only.
My god it’s going to be long :wink:

How much faces are in use? You see this info in ther Vray progress window and it means polygons.
Did you set “simple planes”?

yep simple planes enable.
I must decrease this before getting in the your 3 light setups. Also I will have to decrease the intensity of those quite a lot.
If I want a softer light circle on the floor for those, I have to be sure that the base of the cone doesn’t match with the floor and activate the glossy rays and that’s it ?

polycount: try to use a higher “distance edge-surface”.

Ligh cone: most I use hardness 0 and a very wide cone angle. You are right, the cone of the spots dosn’t match with the rendering.

when faces are above 6 000 000, that I have a lot of “micha-3-set-lights”,
I have some Rhino.exe C++ runtime error, I’m stock on light cache calculation…that’s why I removed it from now. I’m still trying to reduce the load time.
Does it change something to be in cm feet on mm on how mesh are produced ? I think the scene on micha is in cm. for a real scale room. I did the same… cm for a real scale house to don’t f*** too much the light setup intensity that was used :smile:

The mesh is independent from the unit, so I think. Your big cylindrical emitter need more intensity. Maybe a little bit blue at the daylight in the background could give a nice contrast.

when you say “stuck in LC” do you mean it crashes or do you mean the LC just takes a long time? If the LC is taking a long time this generally means the scene is either overbright or there is some overlapping geometry. The overlapping geometry situation can be resolved by changing the Secondary ray bias from 0.0 to 0.001( in the global settings rollout ). If your scene is overbright you can resolve that be reducing the multipliers on lights.

If it is just outright crashing you may have just run out of ram for your system.

Thank you for the tips, I didn’t catch this details.

It was stuck… the progress bar was not moving at all in 1h30. ok the scene is big but just for light cache it seems a bit too much. So maybe I have too much brightness and maybe I also changed secondary bias to 0 because I am playing to much with things I don’t understand but in an attempt to reduce eveything…I do evil things :twisted: :sweat_smile:

I’m working now just with one engine for Indirect Illumination: IRMap with subdiv 15 and samples 128.
LC was too long in secondary engine.
here is the latest tests

after this render I moved up the beams a little bit to touch the ceiling, remove some weird srf around the big window, and reduce once again the intensity of rectangular light.

for the last image I should push it to double samples to reduce the splotchiness on the ceiling. Need to reduce once again the rectangular light intensity, change a bit more the color to blue ( i would like to see more of the window details) and increase the luminosity inside 20%more. I don’t think I should achieve this by increasing intensity of the dome light, because it would do only a stronger cone and won’t affect the entire ambiant lightning… don’t you think ?
a soft rectangular light behind the camera would do the trick ?

I’ve noticed when I render large scenes that consume almost all available memory that the LC / merge part of LC take a very long time. Are you maxing out your memory usage to the point where you are swapping to the disk a lot?

From the http://www.spot3d.com V-Ray documentation…Also its not solely related to LC - any secondary ray method.

so if there is no 2nd engine involved, this setting doesn’t affect something…

Also, I think it was already said but, if I check “Invisible” for one of my rectangular light, I can’t see the reflection of it on the floor right ?
As you can see in the enclosed picture, one of the rectangular light in the window of the door was set to invisible. This way I can see through it to reach the outside wall in this sight. But by setting it to invisible I lose the effect that the others windows have on the floor (white reflection). So maybe I must proceed in two render and photoshop it afterwards ?

how to get a good antialiasing inthe windowed doors ? In Micha Interior Tutorial, he doesn’t use the Antialiasing filter. Should I ? which one ? I read the help file, but it’s not really detailed on time proportion for good quality.

I know catmull is the more exact but longer. Area filter is the default one, with 1.5 what does mean 1.5 ? Is it better to work on noise threshold (reduce it) with QMC or use antialiasing filter ?
