Time to give RT GPU another try

I have a small project that seems ideal for RT GPU. Having had numerous issues with it over the years (namely lockups and unsupported plugins (BerconTile)), we have largely given up on RT. But, I thought I would try again on this one.

Ten minutes in, and max has just locked up. RAM use is climbing - so far at 15+ GB. CPU at 80%. My card is a GTX 980 Ti - not the newest, but should be up to this. System is dual Xeon with 64GB RAM.

Yes, I know, we should have a ‘dedicated’ card for RT, but can’t justify that at the moment. Is this quite normal still or should I expect more?

(OK - max has just recovered. It locked up for a good 5 minutes or so before apparently recovering)

Could you send a scene over for investigation? I don’t believe what you are experiencing is normal. Also, have you tried V-Ray Next Beta? There has been a huge overhaul of the GPU engine.

Thanks Alexander. I haven’t moved onto the Next Beta yet as these are production jobs so can’t risk issues with a beta. I will keep going: I hid the forest grass and it seems a bit more stable.
