After installing Vantage Hydra, Houdini crashes upon startup with the error: “No suitable GPU device found! A DXR-compatible device is required”
The standard standalone version opens normally
System: Version 21H2 (OS Build 19044.705) The Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC
Houdini version: 21.0.512
GPUs: 9950x + 5090 + 4080
Driver version: 580.97 (I’ve also tested the latest version, but it still doesn’t work)
Try disabling “AMD Radeon™ Graphics” in Device Manager.
I don’t have AMD Radeon™ Graphics installed, and I’ve also disabled the integrated graphics in BIOS.
It looks like the issue is from DirectX. Vantage uses DirectX feature level 12.2 and the standalone Vantage app provides it through the Agility SDK, namely it includes the D3D12Core.dll file in the installation. However this SDK works in such a way that only the running process can activate it and in this case it is houdinifx.exe which is not under our control. So the process will load the version of DirectX provided by the operating system. According to this table DX 12.2 was added in Windows 10 update 19041: DirectX - Wikipedia but you are using an “IoT” version of Windows and I don’t know if this ships the same DirectX as regular desktop Windows. You could check by running “dxdiag” from the start menu, it shows the detailed version at the bottom of the main page. Or with the GPU-Z third party app, which has DirectX 12 information in the Advanced tab.
Back in the day DirectX could be updated independently, but with DX 12 it is now updated as part of the OS so you would have to update Windows itself, if possible. However I’m not sure if even a newer Windows 10 would work if the problem is that the IoT version is more limited, since you already have 19044 which is newer than 19041.

The version is below, like 10.0.26100 in my case.
(This is the actual detailed version. The other number to look for that I mentioned is the “Feature Level” which should be >= 12.2)
Having the same issue on win 10 Pro 22H2 19045. dxdiag shows dx 12_1 the highest, but in gpuz it shows 12_2.
Are you also having the issue with Hydra, not the regular Vantage? In your case you say it’s Windows Pro, not IoT Enterprise. I think it should work on this version of Windows. There are other people with a similar problem on the IoT version: Reddit - Please wait for verification
GPU-Z is showing you the version that your hardware supports, but dxdiag shows the DirectX software that is actually installed (as part of Windows).
Are you using a recent driver? And what is the GPU model?
I am having the issue only with Hydra, the standalone works fine. I was using a recent driver and updated to the latest driver. Main Gpu is 4080s (there is also a 4070 installed).
I don’t know what to suggest other than using newer Windows. We are working on some internal changes for Hydra which will hopefully resolve most of its unique issues in a future release.
