Weird reflections

Sorry, another Mirror thread - I did search, but coudn’t see a solution.

See image, the tiles reflected in my mirror are not rendering properly. This is Enscape 4.0, Ultra settings. The issue doesn’t go away when fully rendered to an image file either.

Is there anything I can do?

Thanks

Hey @BarryFishFinger

Here’s what I’d suggest to do:

  1. If not done yet, check if hardware raytracing features are enabled. See what happens if you disable / enable them

  2. Very interesting these issues follow the actual tiling on your texture. Or are the tiles geometry? If they’re texture, checking the roughness texture, normal map etc for weird values could help.

  3. Check if your graphics card driver is up to date.

  4. Consider updating Enscape. We’ve improved reflections further with 4.1 and still keep on doing so. Maybe this issue is version specific.

Hope this helps  all the best!

Thanks Kaj! I’ll check all that, thanks for the tips. Raytracing is on, but I’ll fiddle around and see. The tiles are just textures (grout texture and tile texture), but I’ll play with he maps etc.

And yes, the intent is to update to 4.1, I just haven’t had a chance yet

OK, update - I’ve checked all materials and settings, and it seems to be a raytracing thing. If I toggle on Raytraced artificial lights then the issue appears to be resolved.

Thanks

Ok, unfortunately @Kaj_Burival_1 this issue is happening again. Currently on Enscape 4.2.0.

All textures are just flat, no bump maps etc, and the behaviour isn’t consistent - the same texture is displaying differently in the reflection. I’ve tried various RT settings which don’t make a difference.

It seems to occur when the view is set at a more oblique angle, see images below. If the view is straight on to the mirror, it seems ok. Mirror outlined in red in both images.

Any thoughts? Thanks

Edit:

Hey @BarryFishFinger - sorry to hear the behavior is back. This seems like we should take a closer look at it / perhaps try to reproduce the issue. Can I ask you to send in a support ticket using the Support button in the Enscape toolbar? Feel free to include a link to this forum post in the description, so you don’t have to explain twice. The colleagues will probably ask you if you can share the textures - I hope that’s okay.

try flipping your faces

Well then! That appear to have fixed it. I’ve flipped all the faces to what I would consider the ‘wrong’ way up (ie showing the back face default colour in Sketchup), reapplied the textures and it all appears to be working fine in the mirror.

Amazing, thanks so much.

Remember in Sketchup Blue = Bad

Yep, but that’s why I always apply textures to the white/front face.

Not sure why flipping these faces to the ‘bad’ blue face has fixed the reflection issue, but there we go. Weird!
